Wonderkids 6 years ago: FM 09 => FM 15

Hello guys,

This year became the first one when I decided not to create any player lists at True Football Manager blog. It's easy to explain: I want to focus on playing FM 2015 as much as possible. Moreover, there are many different sites like FM Scout creating such list for those who like to have easy hints about young gem footballers.

Despite that I couldn't miss looking onto wonderkids in the new Football Manager at all. That's why this time I implemented an idea I had always in mind:

  1. Take the old wonderkid list blog post (FM 2009)
  2. Visit profile of every player there.
  3. Try to review how player was successful during the timespan.

I invented Success Rate attribute for this blog update to show up my personal relation to progress of every FM 2009 wonderkid. 100% of Success Rate stands for complete success and world star status. Low values closer to 0% mean absolute failure in career and development.

Now enjoy! :-)

Football Manager 2014 Wonderkids

Dear friends,

Since that time other FM sites started to be copycats making something similar to my list. But every year my new list get new original features that other sites have no. That’s probably why my last year FM 13 list got more than 5 millions of views and became the most popular page of the blog.

So here is my gift to you dedicated to recent Football Manager 2014 release is a list of FM 2014 wonderkids and talents. It was created with love and passion, and I believe it should be helpful for many of you.

Will Hughes in FM 2013

Hi guys,

One of the most exciting English wonderkids is Will Hughes. It’s my humble opinion which is shared by many other FM gamers. Will is certainly one of the best players in my Nottingham Forest. He is also present in my wonderkid list with TFM rating of 4.

So I’d like to tell you about my personal experience with him and try to point how to take full advantage of his presence in a squad.

Jamaal Lascelles in FM 2013

Dear readers,

Today’s post is clearly dedicated to one of my favourite players in Football Manager 2013. He is definitely one of the wonderkids. Forest academy graduate Jamaal Lascelles has been Nottingham Forest captain since the second season (which was my PL debut).

Just think about that: he got a captain armlet being only 19 years old.

I do hope to retain Jamaal Lascelles in Nottm Forest till the end of the story. He will become a single original Forest player who is absolutely dedicated to his club like great Ryan Giggs.

Thomas Drage in Football Manager 2013

Dear blog readers,

This talented Norwegian was one of my first transfers in Nottingham Forest.  I bought him from Tromso for $1.5M only, and his price value is more than $20M. I want to talk with about Thomas Drage today, definitely one of the wonderkids in Football Manager 2013.

Carlos Fierro in Football Manager 2012

Are you in search of talented U21 players? If yes, I recommend to take a look Wonderkids in Football Manager 2013. There are many cheap FM 2013 players, by the way.

Today my words about the Mexican striker who is present among all other FM 2012 wonderkids in my list.

I bought Fierro before the 3rd season (2013/14) for only $2.4M. In the 8th season he costs $14.25M and one of the best Premier League goal scorers after 12 fixtures

PL goal scorers, season 8

Trainings efficiency

Let’s take a look how much my trainings schedule were efficient for Fierro together with 4 - 4.5 starred coaches and good facilities.

Striker training schedule

Shooting is a top priority in the schedule as you see.  Other important things like Ball Control, Attacking, Tactics are on the same pretty high level. Physical attributes have also be trained quite much with some preference to Aerobic category. It resulted in Heavy workload which didn’t harm Carlos much, he got only 3 injuries during trainings for 5.5 years. It’s OK as for me.

Fierro's injuries

We may compare his attribute values after all.

Carlos Fierro in 2013

His transfer move to Queens Park Rangers is described in ‘Amazing season 3 start’ post.

You see his progress was really fantastic. Carlos Fierro has already turned into World Class striker!

Carlos Fierro vs Javier Hernandez

Fierro vs Hernandez

I could not take other striker for comparison but Javier Hernandez. He is also Mexican!

Javier is a world class forward still playing in Manchester United. He scored 97 goal in 114 matches for Mexico. Incredible statistics! Luckily, my Fierro is on the same way having 27 goals during 35 caps.

As for the attributes, both Mexicans are equal by Technical skills. Though better Fierro has Dribbling and Finishing finishing while his elder mate possesses higher Heading.

In Mental category I would give an advantage to Hernandez basing on Anticipation, Off the Ball, Work Rate, Concentration. But pay attention Fierro has more Flair and Composure.

Physically Javier Hernandez is also a bit better due to high Balance helping him to hold the ball. Man Utd’s striker has strong Natural Fitness that will help him not to loose in physics and remain a World Class forward being 32-33 years old.

In the end I finalize saying Carlos Fierro looks like a new Javier Hernadez with slight advantage of the latter at the moment.

Career stats

Career stats

Fierro didn’t score so many goals while being in shadow of Jay Rodriguez. But then I decided to sell Englishman and give Carlos an opportunity to play in the first squad without rotation. It gave the results if you glance onto season 2017-18 and season 2018-19 stats.

Carlos Fierro in season 8 (2018/19)

Enjoy 4 goals by Fierro against Wigan

So Carlos Fiero is absolutely amazing forward for me now. He becomes a main threat and headache for the opponents scoring many goals. I recommend this player to be signed for any club. And also I am pretty sure Carlos Fierro will be a wonderkid in Football Manager 2013 as well.

Last but not least, the question from me for you:

What can you say about Fierro in your Football Manager game?

Excited to blog for you,

Marc-Andre ter Stegen in Football Manager 2012

Are you in search of talented U21 players? If yes, I recommend to take a look Wonderkids of Football Manager 2013. There are many English FM 2013 players, by the way.

Dear readers,

today I would like to analyse Marc-Andre ter Stegen in my FM 2012 story. This is because I bought him for Q.P.R. and can take a deeper look into his performances and development during trainings.

By the way, ter Stegen is listed in my wonderkids list for Football Manager 2012.

Who is Marc-Andre ter Stegen?

In the real life it’s the most prospective German goalie, 20 years old now. He helped his club Borussia Gladbach in finishing the 4th and notching up qualification to the Champions League this season.

ter Stegen made a debut for the national team of Germany in the weird 3:5 match against Switzerland. Afterwards he wasn’t taken by head coach to Euro 2012. More experienced yongster Ron-Robert Zieler was invited to the squad.

Development during trainings

Ok, let’s see what was the influence the default goalkeeper training schedule on ter Stegen.

The German talent had a decent progress. It’s very good because ter Stegen age was 24 when he moved to my Q.P.R. Though I understand I got him too late to think he will develop much.

Training schedule

Career stats

Career stats

He was very good in Gladbach and still prospective to have some progress in trainings. Therefore I decided to buy him instead of David Ospina who completely stopped progressing.

Interesting to see that the 2nd season for Q.P.R. is going to be much better than the first one! I do think ter Stegen is nearly perfect keeper for my club.

ter Stegen’s accurate passing percentage in this season:

Passing of ter Stegen

Manuel Neuer vs Marc-Andre ter Stegen

Neuer vs ter Stegen

From the comparison above we note ter Stegen lacks Aerial Ability, Reflexes, Rushing Out, Kicking, Anticipation, Positioning, Teamwork, Work Rate, Jumping, Balance, Strength.

I would say Reflexes=13 is the largest weakness.

We see also that ter Stegen excels his countryman Neuer who is one of the best goalkeepers in the world in Communication, Bravery, Concentration, Determination, and Influence. We can make a conclusion ter Stegen is “really more Kahn” than Neuer. He can be a real team captain.

So there it is. And how is ter Stegen good in your Football Manager story? What club is he playing for?

Excited to blog for you,

Vitaliy Mokosiy

P.S. Go England! I do believe you will beat Italy tonight!

Analysing Marco Verratti in FM 2012

Dear readers,

Today I want to analyse Marco Verratti and the influence of my FM 2012 training schedules on him since the very start of the story. Probably you remember I bought Italian wonderkid during the first transfer window when he was just 18 years old. Therefore it should be entertaining to take a wide look at his whole career in my Queens Park Rangers.

Development during trainings

Verratti has been training under the same schedule developed for attacking midfielders since the story start. It’s based on a quite heavy workload with accents on Attacking, Shooting, Tactics, and Ball Control categories. This is how it looks:

Training schedule for Verratti

As a result you can compare how Marco’s attributes changed between 2011 and 2016 years.

Marco Verratti in 2011

Marco Verratti in 2016

Now we can look at Verratti’s history of some major attributes for playmakers. But at first you should pay attention to the past injuries my favourite playmaker had. Unfortunately, Verratti broke his leg in the end of 2014 and was out of the game for a long period of 5 months. It influenced his development much, you will see this on the screenshots below.

Verratti's injuries

Aerobic attributes

OK, I has taken 4 Aerobics attributes. You see their confident growth since the very beginning and the drop due to 5 month injury. Well, it’s logically.

Tactical attributes

Marco’s tactical learning is very well I should confess. His first two years in the club were played under sign of a large progress. It’s also interesting to see that the long-term injury doesn’t influenced the tactical attributes so much as it was in case with the Aerobics category.

Attacking attributes

Growth of Attacking attributes is very good and doesn’t differ much from the Tactics category. Though I am slightly worried regarding depression of growth during the last half of year…

Comparison with Wesley Sneijder

I think Marco Verratti is a playmaker of the same type as Wesley Sneijder. This is the reason why I decided to compare Italian talent with great Dutch playmaker who is already 31 years old in my game. What we see here? What traits does Verratti lack in comparison with Sneijder?

First of all, the Dutch is better technically in First Touch, Long Shots, and Free Kicks. In Mental area Sneijder has even larger advantage overcoming Marco in Concentration, Decisions, Determination, Off The Ball, Team Work, and Work Rate. I suppose this difference in mental attributes is a key to answer why Sneijder is better than Verratti.

Physically Marco excels Wesley slightly. But it’s not really important for a playmaker.

Career roller-coaster

Marco Verratti is like on a roller-coaster now due to his 5 month injury in the end of 2014. It was the time when he had got his last award. Moreover, his Premier League stats are not so good in 2015/16 season as it was in the previous season before the injury. I hope my favourite QPR player will return to his level closer to decisive spring matches.

Carrer stats

Couple of questions for you in the end:

What do you think of Marco Verratti as a player?

How has Verratti been developing in your FM story?

Q.P.R. squad changes before the 5th season

Hello my dear readers!

Season #5 is about to begin in my Q.P.R. story. As you remember, at the story start I set a target to win Premier League in 5 seasons. So now I should try to compete with Manchester City. They have been dominating in the league for 3 years winning 3 titles in row. Nevertheless, when I was asked about season expectations, I claimed the same target as before the last season:

take Top-4 position to qualify into the Champions League.

Just don’t want to be sacked in case of failure Подмигивающая рожица  It’s due to my feeling that QPR is not ready to compete for the title. Though last QPR transfers can change my opinion. In short, we’ll see…

Players out

Players out

I sold a lot of players trying to ease loading on the wage budget and return to a positive financial balance. By the way, your advices in the comments helped me much because I had been hesitating over several footballers.

Most noticeable sales are:

- Alberto Paloschi (SC)

- Younes Kaboul (DC)

- Andreas Bjelland (DC)

- Korey Smith (MC)

- Alejandro Faurlin (DMC)

- Jordan Spence (DR)

- Cole Skuse (DMC)

It was sad to say ‘goodbye’ to Faurlin, Paloschi, and especially Kaboul.

Faurlin wasn’t really efficient during the last season. After this transfer campaign he became the 4th best DMC in the squad. His salary, age, and wish to play in the first eleven helped me to arrange his transfer to Vitesse.

I bought one excellent wonderkid centre back (mentioned in the next post section) and understood it’s necessary to sell one current DCs. Younes Kaboul is nearly 30 years old with the wage of $59K. I was hesitating between him and Cathcart, decided to to sell the French because Craig Cathcart is only 26 years old.

Alberto Paloschi… Perhaps some of you will be disappointed to see him leaving the Rs. But I felt I should give more chances to younger Carlos Fierro as a backup of my main striker Jay Rodriguez. Moreover, there are young talented regens Kolar and Romero who also need some real football practice. By the way, Paloschi’s wage was high: $63K.

Players in

Players in

It was somewhat unexpected because I didn’t want to do many signings. One of the most important targets was earning money on players’ sales and saving finances to keep positive balance. But my squad needed strengthening, therefore quite I managed to get 8 new players for the first squad!

Here they are:

1. Sime Vrsalljko (DR, DMC) - $11.75M

Available in the Wonderkids List

Sime Vrsaljko in Football Manager 2012

Signing of Sime will certainly resolve my old problem of right back. He was an ideal candidate and worth spent $11.75M. No doubts!

2. Samir Breinburg (DC) - $7M

Breinburg is that wonderkid whose appearance in the Rangers made me to sell Younes Kaboul. He is already very good and strong lacking only Pace and Acceleration to fit into my Supersonic tactical approach. But look at his age! Breinburg has to become one of the best defenders in the world together with another young talented DC I have - Bernard Holt.

3. Mohamed Diame (DMC, MC) - $3.3M

Mohamed Diame in Football Manager 2012

I have been dreaming to get this tenacious defensive midfielder 2 or 3 seasons. He is nearly perfect to fit in my tactical model. The guy replaced Faurlin at DMC position and is going to compete for it with Garmash. He is much more defensive than the Ukrainian what allows to have some tactical fluency. I’ll be able to use Diame when there’s need in better ball winning.

4. Bruno Santos (GK) - $4M

Backup goalkeeper for Ospina. Young and talented.

Next Hilario

5. Chris Brunt (MC, AML, AMR) - $3M

Chris Brunt in Football Manager 2012

It was a risky solution but I wanted Brunt so much. His strong side is a versatility. Leader of Northern Ireland can play evenly good as a central playmaker, left and right winger. Therefore I am going to use his mastery and experience on different position. More tactical fluency here as well as in the case with Diame.

6. Jordan Henderson (MC, AMR) - Free

Available in the Wonderkids List

Jordan Henderson in Football Manager 2012

Henderson was an over-priced English wonderkid at the beginning of the game. Just think: Price=$25M, Wage=$110K

Now I managed to sign him for free for quite advantageous salary. Jordan will play from a substitution bench, though I understand he may leave the team complaining about the first eleven experience lack.

7. Rachid El Amrani (DR) - $2.4M

What a talent! Rachid El Amrani is 16 years old only but can play as a backup player at DR position. He has very promising future!

8. Corrin Brooks-Meade (GK) - $850K

Corrin Brooks-Meade in Football Manager 2012

Just a third goalie with English nationality who agreed on a backup status in the squad.

Wage budget

Now it’s much better. The balance of Queens Park Rangers is above zero, and it makes me very joyful.

I am in mood to be very determined during the Champions League matches to get as much money as possible. Though the most important my target for the season is competing with Manchester City for the title. I understand there are Tottenham, Man Utd, and others… but Man City is dominating in my story now.

Wish me a good luck! Улыбка

So how do you like my transfers?

Excited to blog for you,
