Supersonic reconstruction

Blog post 898

Hi guys,

I am still in the very beginning of season 3 and played 5 official matches only. Anyway I have something to tell you regarding tactics since I rejected to use asymmetric tactical approach and decided to reconstruct good old Supersonic one. Can anybody of you recall how I had been using Supersonic tactics for Leeds in FM 2012? I am. I do remember its very well and deem my defensively unstable Palace needs something like that.

Two new tactics unveiled

Blog post 875

Hi guys,

Thanks for reading my Dream Job story. By the way, you can comment what story sides should be more/less lightened. It would be awesome to hear your opinion.

Today's update about Braganca contains the tactical info and latest results. The 2nd season is being played with already successful 4-4-1-1 tactic and two new tactical schemes presented below.

3-5-1-1 with Standard Mentality

It is oriented to a total ball control in the centre of midfield. 5-in-line midfielders + AMC provide a ball possession level I need.  The tactics works really great against 4-5-1 formation which is quite popular in Portuguese National Championship.

Key team instructions unique among all three tactics I use:
  • Much Lower Tempo
  • Stick To Positions

Core tactics for Braganca in FM 2015

Dear readers,

The first season managing Braganca became a successful one. I managed to get into promotion playoff has having quite weak squad and 5000 bet coefficient of title win. In fact Braganca was the 4th team of 80 in Portuguese National Championship. That was a merit of used tactical approach, and I am ready to share it with you just right now.

Total impression

At first I had some experiments with asymmetric tactical approach trying to play without central midfielders at all. But then it became clear for me it couldn't work because many PNC teams use 4-5-1 formation overloading midfield. So after all I stopped on two tactics and played almost the whole season using them:

  • 4-4-1-1 Control - main one
  • 4-1-2-2-1 - backup one

The latter is actually modified version of my AZ tactics used in FM 2014. I can say it didn't work well against other PNC teams, so 4-4-1-1 Control was used in most cases. The following stats confirms success rates for both tactics:

New awesome tactics for Dresden

Hello dear blog readers,

825. That is the blog post number actually. Its news are very important because I changed Dresden tactic set that had been used since the very first season. Look what I have prepared for season 7.

Tactics 1. Best of the old

I selected Half-Back tactics as the best of all old ones. Results became a leading factor to make this kind of selection.

If you want to know more or recall some details, just read about Half-Back based tactics in this this blog update:

Team instructions during match in FM 2014

Hello dear readers,

Today I would like to discuss team instructions that we got reworked in Football Manager 2014. They became more convenient and realistic way of managing how your team should act during matches.

I suspect some of you already forgot about sliders from previous game versions. Frankly speaking I always had some kind of feeling of artificiality regarding sliders. So new team instructions seem as a large step in evolution of Football Manager.

6 tactical tips and hints, FM 2014

Hello dear readers,

My Dresden story is in progress but currently I would like to share some thoughts about tactics in FM 2014 based on my experience. The first thing I learned is about flanks.

1. Use flanks

In the real life we see most of teams use flanks very actively to attack. Formerly popular classic 4-4-2 formation yielded to the times and 4-3-2-1 with two inside forward rules now. It uses flanks even more actively than 4-4-2.

Football Manager 2014, as the best football world simulator, reflects the modern trend. In my opinion flanks work better and allow to create more efficient attacks than through a centre.

As a confirmation – my main tactic in Dresden story.

Rigid tactics: 2 backup variants I use

Dear readers,

Thanks for joining True Football Manager again. It’s time to share 2 backup tactics used by me in Dynamo Dresden story. Both of them are based on my main tactic which was presented earlier. Ideologically, the whole my FM14 tactic set differs from the one I had in FM13 called Triple C. I had an attempt to play very different football styles using different formations in Football Manager 2013. An opposite approach cultivated by me in FM 2014 because currently all three Dresden tactics have many common features:

  • Very rigid philosophy
  • High use of flanks
  • Direct passing
  • Wide play

But let’s try to to understand what differences my backup tactics have from already published counter-attacking one.

FM 2014 Tactics

At the height of the season 2 I am glad to share my FM 2014 tactics used for Dynamo Dresden. I cannot boast with some great results so far but think this tactic works pretty fine and could only need a couple of small adjustments. By the way, it would be nice if you suggest me any creative minds in the comments.

New 4-2-3-1 tactics I created

Hi guys,

Here I have already started to play the 8th season in Nottingham Forest story and would like to present my new FM 2013 tactics. It’s created for replacement of counter-attacking narrow 4-1-2-1-2 which is not so usable because Forest turned into a real force which I believe doesn’t need to play defensive football with keen sudden attacking moves.

I have already started season 8 and successfully used the tactics. Therefore I can share it here now.

Football Manager 2013 Tactics

FM2013 Tactics

Finally I am ready to present my Football Manager 2013 tactics which helped me to take the 3rd Championship position with Nottingham Forest and promote to the Premier League in the first FM 13 season.

I called it Triple C because it consists of 3 very different tactics:

  • Control (4-2-3-1)
  • Counter-attacking (4-1-2-1-2)
  • Classic (4-4-2)

So now you should see why I selected the name for my tactical approach in FM 2013.

FM 13 Tactics. 4 approaches from other bloggers

Hello FM people,

Last week I made a short competition for free Steam codes between FM Crowd bloggers asking them to write articles about FM 13 tactics. It’s already over. I believe this stuff can be helpful to you because the guys described several interesting tactical approaches there. I’d like to share links on their FM 13 tactics here.

Fluidity Tactics for FM 2012

Need a good FM 2013 tactics? Here I have an original tactical approach which includes 3 efficient Football Manager 2013 tactics. Check it out!

Hello dear readers,
Today I would like to present review and download link of my current FM 2012 tactics. I called it Fluidity because of its very fluid philosophic concept.

Share the tactics with your friends!

3-4-3 formation and team instructions

I chose 3-4-3 with DMC formation bearing in mind ideas:
- 3 strikers organizing goals and closing down defenders;
- Midfielders as active participators in both defensive and attacking phases;
- Defensive midfielder should intercept balls and hinder opponent’s attacking midfielder;
- 3 central backs have to work together efficiently to disallow opponents to score goals.
The following team instructions were chosen to realize these ideas.

Team instruction for my FM 2012 tactics

Features of the tactics

Now I want to explain main ideas which became a base for the tactics.

First of all, fluidity. Very fluid philosophy is a key part of tactics. It allows making players to contribute to all phases. To increase fluidity level, I set more expressive Creative Freedom in team instructions.
I think Rigid philosophy would not suit 3-4-3 formation because of large gaps between lines and only 3 defenders at the bottom.

Creative Freedom

It’s all about trusting players more than usually. My previous Supersonic tactics had an opposite effect because Rigid philosophy has been restricting many unexpected creative actions from players. This time I wanted to trust them, trust their creativity.
So finally you should have players with rather high level of Decisions to achieve success with the tactics. Attackers have to possess high Creativity and Flair as well.

Defensive Wingers

I have never used Defensive Wingers earlier. Normally people tend to set Winger or Wide Midfielder roles for ML and MR positions. I decided to experiment because of only 3 defenders behind. They merely need help on the flanks when team is in defending phase.
Attacking duty of my defensive wingers means also an active participation in attacks.

Attacking triangle + Target man usage

Attacking triangle in my FM 2012 tactics
Here I have 3 strikers in different roles forming a special triangle. Its keen sword is Poacher (SC) who should be amazingly fast and concentrated when striking a ball. He is expected to become a main goal-machine.

Other 2 strikers sit deeper on a pitch trying to support the Poacher. Especially it touches on Deep-Lying Forward (SRC).

Target Man (SLC) wins headers passing the ball to 2 other forwards. The most long passes are addressed right to him. You should have noticed team instructions have Target Man instruction enabled.
I feel it’s a really good combination of roles, though other variants can also successfully exist.

Defenders must to be fast

It’s a tactics feature and restriction at the same time. One will fail using 3-4-3 formation if centre backs have average values of Pace and Acceleration attributes. DLC and DRC are Stoppers who use tight marking and sometimes shift to flanks if needed. The 3rd central back covers them.

Ball-playing defender

He has 2 important functions:
1. As I have already written, covering 2 other defenders and making important interceptions.
2. Providing long passes to the trio of forwards. Good Decisions, Creativity, Technique, Passing are needed.
By the way, goalkeeper has a ball distribution setting aimed to this defender.

Pros & Cons

Attacking Phase
- 3 strikers create open spaces for each other;

- Wingers and MC join attacks, so you have 6 players in attack;

- Anchor man DMC works well against counter attacks;

- Ball-playing DC makes amazing long passes that turn into assists sometimes.
- Playmaker MC performs long shots when he doesn’t see a good option for pass (bad if you player tends to make long shots often);

- Sometimes a winger crosses the ball to another winger who joins attack. Though they both have player instruction to aim crosses to Target Man.
Defending Phase
- Defensive wingers tackle ball on flanks;

- 3 fast defenders cooperate great, DC covers 2 stoppers;

- It’s hard to break this defence because of 3 defenders and 1 DMC in its centre;

- Strikers participate much in closing down opponents.
- Higher than normal amount of dangerous crosses when opponent has formation with AML and AMR.

Backup tactics

Backup FM 2012 tactics

I created backup tactics to play against more strong opponents in away matches. It’s more defensive because of 2 important changes if we compare with the main one:
1. Counter-attacking strategy.
2. Defensive wingers have Support duty instead of Attack.

Football Manager 2012 Tips and Hints

Welcome to my “Football Manager 2012 Tips and Hints” guide. I decided to create this one trying to help other Football Manager 2012 gamer with smart advices and useful links.

The guide’s concept is a compactness.

This is the reason why it contains very short tips and hints combined with links to other articles.

Лампочка  Player with low morale level is not really efficient. Therefore you can put him into Reserves where he will be able to raise morale back after few matches.

Лампочка  If you drop player from main squad, talk with him about this explaining that you are going to give a rest.

Лампочка  Your relationship with a player can be improved by means of asking him to recommend someone to a team.

Лампочка  Setting high competition bonuses before the season will motivate your players.

Лампочка  Pay special attention to player condition and match fitness. Both attributes should be 100% ideally. If condition is near 100% but match fitness is below 90%, set your player available for Reserves.

Available for Reserves in FM 2012

Лампочка  Don’t change player squad status often. It may upset him.

Лампочка  Try to use player private interaction and team meetings to raise morale level of the players. For instance, chat with a player complaining his last match performance was bad if his match average rating is below 6.8.

Лампочка  Normally foreign players need some time to settle in new country and blend into your team.

Лампочка  Use customizable views to compare performance of players. There are many helpful attributes you can take a look: Tackles Ratio, Headers Ratio, Passes Ratio, etc.

Лампочка  Use my Preferred Player Moves guide to understand what PPMs suite for that or another position in your formation.

Tactic Familiarity Levels

Лампочка  Reach fully filled tactic familiarity levels in match preparation. Start every new season with Very High match preparation workload until all the levels become fluid.

Лампочка  Use Push Higher Up touchline shout when opponents forwards are slow (Pace and Acceleration < 13). Vicee versa use Drop Deeper in case of fast forwards.

Лампочка  OK, you are winning a game in 1 goal and want to hold a score. It’s good to use combination of Contain strategy and Retain possession + Play Narrower + Pass into feet touchline shouts to do it.

Лампочка Use hard tackling in opposition instructions if referee is not strict. His strictness can be checked by my formula:

        (yellow cards / judged matches) < 3

Лампочка Playing against stronger teams using Counter Attack strategy can be often efficient.

Лампочка More tactical tips can be found in my Supersonic tactics post.

Лампочка If you don’t like to create tactics by yourself, you can download already working examples:  FM 12 Tactics

Лампочка  Use Offer to clubs if you want to sell your player quickly. Though there won’t be an opportunity to bargain in price in this case.

Offer to clubs in FM 2012

Лампочка Offering too many players in short time period can decrease morale levels of other players.

Лампочка Status ‘Not needed by the club’ increases probability of player sale.

Лампочка Praise another managers via media interaction. It may improve relationship with them and easy transfer bid acceptance level.

Лампочка  You can decrease financial expectations of a player during contract talks increasing his agent’s signing fee.

Лампочка  All newcomers need time to blend into the team. Don’t expect them to do their best during the first season’s half.

Лампочка Morale level matters during trainings. Try to keep it as high as possible!

Лампочка Too intensive trainings can cause many injuries. Just be careful.

Лампочка Use my Coaches and Coaching guide to find the best staff for your team.

Лампочка Some good tranings can be found here: FM 12 Trainings

Лампочка Awesome detailed training guide is created by Mantralux.

Лампочка Add all players you like to your shortlist.

Лампочка Let’s suppose you hesitate about buying already scouted player. Scout him once more using another scout.

Лампочка I try to use scouts of different nationalities who has expertise in their countries. It allows to perform more efficient scouting.

Лампочка Feeder clubs share their scouting network to parent clubs automatically .
