Q.P.R. Intricate season 9 start

Hello people,

Right here, right now, I am ready to report about the first part of matches in season 9. Trying to play Football Manager 2012 as quickly as I can. Luckily, I got some additional free time for that.

But the start produced by The Rangers is very disturbing.

16 matches: 7 wins, 4 draws5 losses.

Played matches

Last season Q.P.R. managed to get into winning streak and capture leadership with 3-5 points of distance to the 2nd position. Now… you see… Something strange happened. Normally such kind of start below expectations is provoked by numerous squad changes. But I bought 2 players only…

Community Shield. Vs Man City

The bad row of matches started with defeat at Wembley stadium. Q.P.R. had all chances to win the game. But inefficiency in attack doesn’t allow to do that. Moreover, we got 3 unexpected and pretty weird goals.

6 points distance from PL leaders is not too much of course, but it’s still very annoying. Arsenal, Manchester United, Manchester City have better players in their squads. They didn’t fail the PL season start, have great morale level… It will be really tough to compete with the 3 grands for the title.

The main reason of our poor start is a strangely low attack efficiency in home matches. Q.P.R. scored just 17 goals in 10 matches having 3 forwards upfront. It differs much to results I had in the last season.

Look how many points Queens Park Rangers lost due to missed shots:

The best match of the period is the one against Manchester United. My boys managed to keep consistency through the whole 90 minutes and win the game confidently.

Champions League

Champions League

Another weird start in the tournament. Here we got very equal group where any of the opponents can qualify into the next rounds. Interesting that all clubs (apart from mine) are leading in their national championships.

Rubin impressed me with their desire to win and smart team moves. More or less equal match resulted in 0:2 loss.

Rubin

Than we got a victory over Twente and thought that it’s OK, we will win the group. But suddenly Toulouse disappointed Q.P.R. fans scoring 4 out of 5 target shots whereas my players managed to change scoreboard numbers 3 times only. It was said because of large advantage we had. Again and again strikers didn’t cope with pressure failing many goal chances.

Vs Toulouse

We had to win the next match against Toulouse at home. Moreover, I was pretty confident of that. Team leaders Fleck, Douglas Costa, and Fierro supported my belief in them scoring 3 times.

Toulouse

Carling Cup

Q.P.R. is the last season Carling Cup winner. This is why it’s even more pity to leave the tournament at the starting round. Carousel of mistakes produced by all my defenders and especially goalie ter Stegen became a main reason of the loss. What a shame!

QPR players

QPR players[4]

This time I am not happy with performance produced by my players. As you see there are just 8 persons with average rating higher than 7.00. It means a lot.

First of all I would like to criticize strikers:

- somehow Daniel Bazan lost his backsight, very low percentage of shots on target - 31%.

- Fierro failed to score more than 1 goal in the first 8 matches. But then he returned his great form.

- Alonso Romero totally forgot how good he was in the end of the last season. Now he has the lowest average rating in the squad.

Goalkeeper ter Stegen was very unconfident in several matches.

Ezquerra and Alessandro. Both are young and have adaptation problems making quite many mistakes. Time should pass to see if they can perform more reliably.

Douglas Costa

Only one striker showed excellent.  Douglas Costa managed to score 8 goals and make 2 assists helping our team much.

Looking into his shot stats I see Douglas Costa is having a top form. He has never been so brilliant in attack before.

Will Q.P.R. be able to catch up Premier League leaders? That’s the main question. For now I have no answer. But I believe all title struggle is ahead.

Transfers and expectations for season 9

Dear readers,

Q.P.R. story continues, and it’s time to prepare for season 9. In the last post your comments confirmed my intentions to do just few transfers strengthening the most problematic positions. So let’s take a look at what I’ve done.

Season expectations

Season expectations

The current season expectations doesn’t differ from the last season targets. I want to win either PL or CL title.

Though this time Sky Bet and Media Prediction are higher. They say I have the 4th squad by strength in the Premier League.

Odds

Transfers

Club reputation

Unluckily, Q.P.R.’s club reputation is stalled at 3.5 stars. It’s quite strange because Liverpool and Tottenham were always below my club in the last seasons. I suppose only PL or CL winning can raise up my Rangers in this list.

A negative effect of not so great reputation is that many world class players doesn’t even want to think about moving to Queens Park Rangers. So I am obliged to find really good footballers from smaller set of players…

Players out

Transfers out

Nothing special happened regarding sold players.

Quite predictably, Jerry Richardson and Lorenzo Ariaudo moved from the Rangers due to their first team requests. I got nice $11M from their transfers.

Players in

Transfers in

Just 3 players were brought into Q.P.R. Two first of them bought for the first eleven.

I tried to buy one of talented Brazilian goalkeepers instead of ter Stegen but failed. They asked too much: more than $30M.

1. Gaston Ezquerra (DC) - $22M

Gaston Ezquerra

Remember I was asking question about Kyle Redhead in the last post?

Well, I decided to make him the 4th defender in the team buying Gaston Ezquerra. This young world-class central back is a partner of Samir Breinburg in Argentina. He is looking merely awesome. Going to use him in ball-playing defender role instead of Mats Hummels. Thus the German will be moved at DLC position.

I paid only half of money. Another half will be paid off as monthly instalments.

2

2. Alessandro (MR, AMR, MC, DMC) - $21.5M

Alessandro

Not so great transfer as the previous one. But anyway I needed strengthening at the right flank. Seamus Coleman is 31 years old and don’t play so good as before.

Alessandro should be quite efficient defensive winger. He has nice Tackling, Marking, Work Rate, Passing, First Touch. Though of course several attributes have to be improved during trainings. It’s my main expectation regarding the Brazilian.

Monthly instalments were used to buy Alessandro.

1

3. Leonardo Bosio (MC) - Free

Bosio

I couldn’t reject myself to sign for free another Argentinian talent :) Especially taking into consideration his low salary expectations.

For a while, Bosio will start season in the Reserves.

Finances after the transfers

I have never had so high balance. There is also half of transfer budget which can be spend during winter transfer campaign. We’ll see.

Wages

Wage budget has become the highest in Q.P.R. history. But I feel I should not be worried too much because the Rangers are going to win serious trophies this season! Wish me a good luck!

Q.P.R. squad after season 8

Dear readers,

Season 8 is over. Now it’s time for the squad review. I have uploaded profiles of all QPR players for you!

Team report by assistant manager

QPR Squad

Central Defenders

DCs

Analysis of DCs

Obviously, here I have 2 great defenders Hummels and Holt + 1 potentially star Kyle Redhead. Redhead didn’t play good enough in the last season having 6.85 average rating and 73% tackling ratio only.

Should I search for another centre back and move Redhead to substitution bench?

Right Defensive Wingers

Right defensive wingers

Jordi Alba showed himself as pretty good replacement for Coleman. But he is still left-footed and doesn’t act like a real right flank winger. Additionally, you see Seamus Coleman is already 30 years old with his 2.5 stars given by assistant manager…

All these facts mean I have to work on transfer market for this position. It should be strengthened.

Forwards

Forwards

Forwards[6]

The decisive moment of the last season happened in its end. All 3 main QPR strikers - Douglas Costa, Carlos Fierro, Daniel Bazan - got injured, and I had to rely on other guys who are young and inexperienced but really talented.

Only Alonso Romero didn’t let down. I expected more efficient performance from the others. As a result, Q.P.R. didn’t win Champions League and Premier League. But you see the prospects of Schmitt, Alfredo Bazan, Pachequinho are really high. I think I can trust them all, and they will deliver more goals next year.

Conclusion

I am sure Queens Park Rangers should have nearly the same squad next season. With some accurate dotty transfers. It’s hard to disagree with this conclusion because Q.P.R. stopped in one step to win Premier League and FA Cup recently.

As for the transfers, right midfielder is needed - it’s quite obvious.

Perhaps I should search for top-level centre back. I don’t know whether I should rely on Kyle Redhead instead…

What do you think?

Double runner up :(

Dear readers,

I feel myself a looser.

Man City do the double

Manchester City of Jose Mourinho beat me in both Premier League and FA Cup final striking out all my season 8 expectations. My Q.P.R. has missed something, probably luck..

Premier League

Premier League table

As you see, 88 points result wasn’t enough for QPR to win the title. But it was enough for Manchester City due to better goal difference. It’s sad to be the 2nd, especially taking into account that QPR has been at the top from the 3rd fixture to 32nd one.

Here are the last season matches played by Queens Park Rangers.

Played matches

Loosing to Arsenal (the most difficult club for me to play against) made serious impact on our title chances. But the crucial influence was caused by away draw against Aston Villa whose players were having very low morale level. My attackers didn’t seize this opportunity. They were very inaccurate during shots.

The problem is that all 3 main strikers - Carlos Fierro, Daniel Bazan, Douglas Costa - were injured during these two matches. Their younger substitutions were not really ready for big decisive games like that… No luck for me.

Miss chance to win

Vs Aston Villa

FA Cup

Semi Final

FA Cup semi final

It was a match when my young strikers replacing main ones showed themselves great on the pitch. Two goals including decisive one were scored by Schmitt and Alonso Romero. They did help to overcome Rs arch-rival in the semi-final with perceptible advantage in shots.

I was very optimistic regarding the final at Wembley stadium…

Final

FA Cup final

My optimism ended with stupid goal by Man City right back Simon Babayaro (mentioned in the best regens post) on the last minutes. Actually it was my fault. I changed to attacking tactics for the ending match period. Just felt we can push Manchester City and score a goal. I shouldn’t do that as you see.

Additionally, I can say Joe Hart helped his team to win FA Cup making some fine saves.

Q.P.R. players

QPR players

QPR players[4]

I can’t tell you I am unhappy with any of my players. They were good, really good this season. Albeit, slight underperformance can be noted about Kyle Redhead (DC) and Rachid El Amrani (DMC). Both are very young and have to play better football next season.

Meanwhile, Alonso Romero impressed me with his strikes and determination during important matches. Frankly speaking, I considered him as weakest forward at the season start giving preference to Pachequinho, Schmitt, Alfredo Bazan. Now I changed my mind of course!

Finally, John Fleck turned into one of Q.P.R. leaders at playmaker position. Debutant Zargo Toure became a successful transfer of summer. He is a type of anchor man I needed much.

Fantastic Carlos Fierro

Carlos Fierro was simply the best scoring 46 goals in 49 matches. His 35% goals/shot attempts and 70% shots on targets percentages are merely amazing. I don’t know if I will ever have a better striker! His speed, finishing, dribbling decide destiny of many matches. Though I should confess Fierro wasn’t so efficient in the big spring games this season as I expected.

By the way, I had the separate post about Carlos Fierro in this blog. Read it if you missed it!

Carlos Fierro

Fierro

Carlos Fierro got awarded by QPR fans as the best player in this season. Moreover, he took the 3rd position among the best PL goal scorers and the 5th in the Average Rating ranking:

My goalie and striker got into CL dream team which, for sure, is pleasant.

The season 8 is over.  Achievements page renewed.

What’s your opinion of Q.P.R. performance? Didn’t you get tired to wait for PL title and victory in Champions League?

I am not. Though I can’t hide my disappointment with the season ending.
