Football month

Brazil Croatia

Hello dear readers,

It’s True Football Manager on air, blog post no. 808. First and foremost I would like to congratulate all of you with the beginning of World Cup 2014. In my life, I have been watching World Cups since 1990, it was the best opening performance. Beautiful attacking football was shown by both Brazil and Croatia! I am truly impressed.

As far as the start game result concerned, I would say 3:1 is unfair. 2:2 suits more for such an equal performance from both sides. In my mind Croatia was even slightly better. There were two factors that hindered them to get at least one point:

  • Penalty from Japanese referee. Fred was awaiting for that little touch to fall down so effectively…
  • Poor performance by Stipe Pletikosa, Croatian goalie. I believe continental level goalkeepers have to disallow goals from long ranges like those scored by Neymar and Oscar.

As I said, Brazil won’t win the World Cup. The match looks like confirmation that they are not ready to cope with the pressure put on them.

The football month is ahead! I will try to watch as many matches as I can writing my impressions here in the blog from time to time, and of course I will continue to manage Dynamo Dresden in FM 2014 at the same time. So stay tuned!

Dresden story

Now let’s get back to my Dynamo Dresden and latest events in the story. I didn’t manage to play lots of matches after the departure from Europa League. But all four games were complicated, bright, and emotional.

Played games

There are two confident wins over straight competitors and very strong clubs: Schalke and Stuttgart. It makes me happy and I see the tactic-set works very well. However, unexpected loss to Koln uncovered once more problems in Dresden defensive line.

After all, 27 fixtures played and competition for Champions League places is extremely high. 6-7 clubs pretend to qualify into the best European tournament next season… Soon I will have encounters with Hannover, Frankfurt, and Dortmund which can turn into decisive matches onwards.

Clearly tactical win over Schalke.

Match stats

Counter attacking style helped me to gain the first victory over Schalke. My boys had no possession but were really efficient in making fast keen attacking moves. Two of them completed with goals.

I want to praise Vladislav Kalitvintsev who performed great as Box-to-Box Midfielder at MC position. A smart midfielder from Ukraine but, unluckily, very injury-prone. In the last game he got out for 4 months…

Dresden - Schalke

4:1 comeback

StuttgartMatch stats with Stuttgart

When Timo Werner scored, I decided to change my counter-attacking tactic onto the standard one with Half Back at DMC position. It helped to make a breakthrough and arrange this excellent comeback.

Luckily, Stuttgart had their main goalie injured and its young replacement made a few mistakes.

My players

Newcomers Fabio and William are extremely happy their first caps for Brazil. These players are Dynamo Dresden future, together with MC De la Vega who has been showing signs of nice football style during last games.

The team is still led by Marko Pavlovski. And it’s a large difference when we play without him in the starting eleven. So I tend to care about Marko as much as I can. For example, recently I have asked him to fire his agent because of wage talk initiated by him. I was lucky and Pavlovski agreed he did not need that agent :)

MVP – Cece Pepe

My successful experiments with re-training players to their non-native positions continue. Pavlovski as AMR, newbiew William as AML, and Cece Pepe as WBR in the Complete Wing Back role. The long-term injury of Celozzi, my main WBR, helped Pepe to expose himself.

Cece Pepe has been playing more reliable football than his left flank partners Janda and Panjkret. Unexpectedly good in passing and crossing, he made 4 assists in 12(4) matches. Nice. But the best about Pepe is his tackling skills. He is like a hawk covering AMLs on his flanks and tearing out the ball. He reminds me young Puyol playing right wing back in Barcelona 15 years ago or something like that.

Pepe stats

7 games to play

Matches to play

Can’t wait to see how I cope with pressure of competition for the first 8 positions in the Bundesliga. Just to remind you:

I promised Dresden board to qualify into Europe but hope to be in the Top-4.

Excited to blog for you,

First Dresden journey around Europe completed

Hi everybody who likes to read this blog,

True Football Manager update no. 807 is dedicated to two topics actually:

  • Reply match against Inter
  • real life World Cup predictions and expectations

Dynamo Dresden vs Inter

In the first knockout round of Europa League Inter has suffered 2:3 defeat. But it was not a time for miracle. The second leg ended up with 1:2 loss for Dynamo Dresden. Inter substitute forward Ciro Immobile decided the destiny of the whole encounter with a technical shot.

Shifting transfer policy to South American youth

Hello all,

True Football Manager story in Dresden continues, and this is blog update no. 805. Thanks for joining me again. I think you’ll be surprised by latest events happened with Dynamo Dresden. Actually it’s all about winter transfers.

The club board gave me an option to change season expectations and I decided to take more risks promising Europa League qualification. That’s a real challenge!

For that they gave me higher transfer and wage budgets. Immediately I sacrificed some part of transfer money to get additional $120K for salaries. I can say now that wage budget is already gone due to arrival of new players signed in January :-)

Crisis is over. FC Bayern is beaten!

Hello dear readers,

It’s nice to see you at True Football Manager blog once again. Blog update no.803 for you today. And I am going to begin with historical win over Bayern Munich. Previous three encounters with them turned into miserable 0:3, 0:4, 0:5 defeats for Dynamo Dresden.

Here are some factors that were crucial for this victory:

  • High morale level after qualification into Europa League knockout round
  • Excellently working opposition instructions:
    • Hard tackling against inside forwards Gotze and Reus. Making them to hug lines.
    • Closing tackling and hard tackling against all Bayern defenders.
    • Making wing back make less passes to Gotze and Reus.

It’s also interesting that Perica, Pavlovski and Escudero were on substitution bench after fatigue in the Europa League game versus Roda. So we managed to achieve the first victory over the best German club using trio: Niccolo Sassarini (ST), Vladyslav Kalitvintsev (AML), Nohourn Taboure (AMR).

First crisis in Dresden

Hello dear readers,

Blog update no. 802 and it’s still about Dynamo Dresden. I came back from my Georgian trip and continued to managed Dresden in season 5. By the way, here are some nice photos from Georgia. You should be logged in Facebook to view them.

My vacation days did help me to rest after a hard period of work. However, the end of vacation coincided with start of Dynamo Dresden crisis. I played 4 games only after return and almost all of them were awful. Black stripe of results began…

Dresden story. Season 5 beginning

Hello dear readers,

Dresden story continues, and this is blog post no.798 at all. Glad you joined me this time!

After vast transfer campaign described in the previous article, I felt Dresden squad strength is now enough to compete for Top-4 in the national league and certain success in Europa League. What I mean under “certain success” is reaching semi finals and may be even winning the tournament! Well, you can say I am a complete dreamer but starting season 5 matches did hint me that.

Chances to get ticket to Europe

Hi guys,

Thank for joining me again this Friday. Blog #791 today where you can read some news about Dynamo Dresden story.

First of all, I am merely happy with Dresden debut in the Bundesliga. If you take a look below, you can see Dynamo Dresden located at the 9th table line with one match to play. Another win would raise us up to the 7th position which is in 1 point from the Europe League qualification. Well, it would be unbelievable… To tell you the truth, my team can compete with Schalke at the moment anyhow in direct oppositions but league tournament is a long journey where stability rules… So who knows…

Resolution of issue regarding Kirsten

Hello dear readers,

As you remember, last time I was asking you about destiny of Kirsten in Dresden. He’s sold now. I should confess you helped me to make this step more confidently.

Currently January is over and I can share a full picture of Dresden transfers in winter. Here are those players who left the team:

Sold players

You can see I managed to gain $700K for Kirsten whose contract is ending in summer. 4-5 days of delay and I would not get a single penny for him. So it was a transfer success in my mind.

Additionally, I decided to free up some wage budget and fulfil transfer budget selling Ferhan Hasani. His performances in the Bundesliga were totally unsure and I began to understand I can play without him. Got $2.8M – not bad, ye?

AML position will be given out to Marvin Stefaniak with versatile Daniel Pudil as a replacement.

Kirsten question

Benjamin Kirsten in Dynamo DresdenKirsten is an icon

Goalie Benjamin Kirsten is an icon player in Dresden. And his contract runs out in summer. Now he has $18.2K wage but if I want to renew contract it’s going to be something near $30K… Now I need to decide whether I should remain Kirsten in the club.

Comparing top league debuts

Hi everybody,

Thanks for joining this blog today. I wanted to write Dresden story update but wasn’t in time to play sufficient count of matches. That’s why I decided to create a some kind of unusual blog post. As you know from the last  update, Dynamo Dresden appeared at the 10th position after first nine fixture in the Bundesliga which I consider a very successful top league debut. Later on I thought:

How much successful were my top league debuts in the previous FM stories?

That’s a really interesting question! Therefore I decided to devote a distinct blog post to that.

Another entertaining nuance for me is that I don’t know the results at the moment. I mean I haven’t checked the previous FM stories and can’t wait to do that right now.

Team instructions during match in FM 2014

Hello dear readers,

Today I would like to discuss team instructions that we got reworked in Football Manager 2014. They became more convenient and realistic way of managing how your team should act during matches.

I suspect some of you already forgot about sliders from previous game versions. Frankly speaking I always had some kind of feeling of artificiality regarding sliders. So new team instructions seem as a large step in evolution of Football Manager.
