We can be Heroes

Blog post 901

Hi dear blog readers,

It's a pleasure to state I managed to finish the 3rd season yesterday. It was really heroic finish I should confess. The point is in that I had several key players injured during last 8 Premier League fixtures.

Despite that, my team was in totally great morale and made a wonderful unbeaten run in the end. The Eagles were definitely on a roll creating some very surprising results!

Surprising PL finish and its causes

I didn't strive to such a sort of outcome to tell you the truth. I was shocked by numerous injuries, especially like this one. 9-11 months!!!

But my correct choices of tactics plus excellent starting line up selection adapted to situation helped to cope with tough injury time. High morale level can be another significant factor of the success. Well, since the result was produced by team I would like to single out Palace players here:

  • Jonny Williams. He proved he's a main playmaker. Hope he won't leave the club during off-season.
  • Jay Rodriguez. Palace newbie had to replace long-term injured Ciro Immobile. I was worried about our further ability to score goals but Jay looked so fine in the most matches. Now I came to grips with that his only position is SC.
  • Wifried Zaha. Key footballer for Crystal Palace who made crucial commitments during some matches.
  • Andre Wisdom. Simply our leading centre back.
  • Ron-Robert Zieler. New Palace goalie was reliable and cool.

Furthermore, Crystal Palace won amazingly against those opponents we had never managed to won before.

  • Confident 4:2 versus Everton.
  • Away 4:3 against Tottenham. We were leading 4:1 and just got relaxed a bit loosing concentration.
  • Somewhat lucky yet very nice 1:0 victory over Man City in the last fixture.

After all Crystal Palace has finished on the 6th position. Could you imagine that at the start of the season? :)

We are in Europa League next season! Yahoo!

You can see we are above Liverpool in the table. Ye? And you should know Liverpool are Champions League winners this year. They beat Barcelona in the final with 3:1 score.

Europa League final turned out completely English. Tottenham defeated Arsenal in very entertaining 4:3 final. Winning goals was scored by Paulinho on the 106th minute.

Just to add more details about the best clubs in season 3: Chelsea won FA Cup beating Middlesbrough, Championship title winner.

Season 3 achievements

No surprise Crystal Palace board is very pleased with my performance.

Club balanced was perceptibly fulfilled as you could expect.

The Squad

I am walking on air since my current squad is balanced and quite cool to reach European cup places. Its half has average ratings above 7.00, that inspires.

Now some words about the best guys. The best player was Jonny Williams with his incredibly important assists during the last season quarter.

Omitting brilliant returner Wilfried Zaha, I can say the best newcomer is Ruben Perez who has been pulling strings in the midfield and tackling ball very well at the same time.

There are also several names of underperforming players:

  • Nicola Murru
  • Radja Naingollan
  • Tom Ince
  • Joe Ledley
First three ones had the first season in Crystal Palace. Surely, I think they need more time to blend into the squad and believe in their future. Joe Ledley will also remain but only as a backup player, the role he seems to agree with.

Upcoming squad changes

I suppose I need your advice. What positions should be strengthened next summer?

Answering the question, try to get the message of what changes I need to make now. Though keep in mind I do not want to make a lot of transfers at the moment and would like to build up this success. So just 2-3 positions to strengthen would be enough for me.

Please take a look at the current squad report and player wages below.

Unfortunately, John Souttar tried to follow Odegaard in his ambitions. He picked a fight and I have nothing to do but sell him now. So it looks like one answer on the question above is ready right now. I will definitely need a new centre back.

That's it for now folks. Stay tuned. Comment on any subject your are interested in my FM story.

Excited to blog for you,
