Supersonic reconstruction

Blog post 898

Hi guys,

I am still in the very beginning of season 3 and played 5 official matches only. Anyway I have something to tell you regarding tactics since I rejected to use asymmetric tactical approach and decided to reconstruct good old Supersonic one. Can anybody of you recall how I had been using Supersonic tactics for Leeds in FM 2012? I am. I do remember its very well and deem my defensively unstable Palace needs something like that.

Supersonic tactics for Palace

Structured team shape should help do be more consistent against teams tending to attack through the middle. So what I have here is formation based on defensive triangle of central midfielders. 2 DMs tackle the ball and deliver it to the third one who performs dispatching. It differs from original tactic in two features:
  • CM is Attacking Midfielder instead Advanced Playmaker
  • AML and AMR play as Inside Forwards instead Wingers
It's just adaptation to my current squad. Though I am going to experiment with these roles a bit.

Supersonic team instructions:

Played matches

There was no any progress. Put it another way, we didn't start to beat grand clubs and still feel insecure while playing away matches.

You see the last one turned into a nightmare for The Eagles. Premier league newbies Cardiff beat us way too easily. Shocking defeat.

Another failure is our getting out of League Cup. Surely everybody understands Man Utd is Man Utd. But I did hope we could be more confident against them if not win with advantage because playing at home always helps.

Premier League table standing

It's inspiring to see Crystal Palace in 4 points from the third line at this stage. But what will happen onwards? Will I be able to find the best starting eleven soon? There are many questions to answer.

Crystal Palace players

I have 6 players with average rating above 7.00 which is certainly less than enough. Off the top of my head there should be at least 10 such guys if we talk about team progress.

I am currently experiencing two squad problems:
  • Squad blending process
  • Too many players who wants to have first team experience
I have to roll with punches somehow and use rotation wisely.

Martin Odegaard is enquired by PSG and it seems there's no chance for me to reject. Otherwise, it could turn into something similar to "Dwight Gayle" case. Do you know where's Dwight Gayle with his abysmal morale? Right, in Palace U21 squad...

By the way, Pablo Piatti has no match experience because of two injuries in a row. Hope he'll be able to play some matches soon.

Next matches

I had no wins against Everton and Manchester United and expect to see my team breaking this sad tradition. I want to see a progress. Its time to shoot for the stars and get into Europa League! Do you think it's possible this season?

Excited to blog for you,
