About lowest Portuguese league rules

Blog post 859

Hello dear readers,

Today I would like to describe what awaits me as Braganca manager in the first season in Portugal. The third level league is called Portuguese National Championship (PNC). I know the blog is visited by many readers from Portugal, however there are more people from other countries. And I suspect most of you don't know how much PNC is complicated and entertaining as it was with me till this weekend.

League for 80 clubs

PNC consists of 80 clubs fighting for just 3 promotion places. These 80 clubs are divided into 8 groups and play 18 matches each till the middle of January.

Top two teams of each group qualify into the next group round called Promotion stage. It will consist as you can count of 16 teams divided into 2 groups. Worst 64 teams go to Relegation stage and play in 8 groups.

Winners in the both promotion stage groups automatically qualify into the second league of Portugal and decided PNC title winner in Champions Playoff final. Clubs taking the 2nd positions fight in Promotion playoff round for the last third place.

So there it is. Some kind of special experience awaits me. Never participated in so crowded and complicated league!

As for chances of my Braganca this season... Well, they are ridiculous according to media. I don't consider my team as one of title contenders but 5001 looks somewhat buggy.

Excited to blog for you,
