Disharmonious low position at season finish

Dear blog readers,

This is blog update #843. My first season with AZ (season 8 in the whole story) is completed. Unluckily, I cannot brag about the results because I didn’t manage to achieve Top 8 and even dropped to the 14th position after all.  Just as a little excuse: AZ finished in 4 points from the 9th place.

AZ matches

Match set

You could imagine me a little bit depressed but I don’t even feel any disappointment. The point is in that AZ had all chances to earn 8-10 additional points during the latest matches. My team showed performance of quite high quality with lack of scored goals. So I remain quite optimistic before the next season.

Just take a look a the match stats against the most strong opponents we had:

After defeat from PSV, there was a key game lost to Zwolle that showed we are not ready to fight for Top 8 places.

Majority of matches when we lost points were caused by weak efforts of strikers during last stage of attacks. AZ players had many goal moments but didn’t manage to score much. Ivan Bozovic was simply awful as Poacher. Diego Rubio was pretty good but according to AZ assistant coach he had problems with gelling into squad. That is why he didn’t score so many goals as he could.

Anxious AZ board

I understand the club board opinion. They were not confident in my future following the current season results. However, I withstood job interview and promised to improve club matters as soon as possible.

Current AZ squad without loaned players

Loaned players will leave AZ, that’s why I excluded them from the list.

If you ask me about the best AZ players, I would answer the following way:

  1. Quincy Promes
  2. Wesley van der Vall
  3. Mitchell Dijks

Those three players + goalie Hobie Verhulst + captain Ruud Vormer form a skeleton of AZ. I will not sell them for any money or benefits. Moreover, there won’t be any squad revolution this time.

Regarding future squad changes… I can uncover who should leave AZ. Oupa Manyisa, Bobley Andreson, Jan Moravek didn’t got new contracts and are leaving on the Bosman rule. I would also like to sell the worst AZ player Ivan Bozovic.

Meanwhile in Dresden

In the end there is some information for you about Dynamo Dresden, my former club in FM 2014. They had a pretty nice season getting into Top 5 and qualifying into Europa League. However, Dresden coach Mirko Slomka was fired for some reason…
