Squad analysis of future CL debutant

Hello dear readers,

Welcome back to True Football Manager blog. It’s a blog post #811 and you should like it :-)

World Cup 2014

Costa Ricaaaaaaaaaaaaaa! Marvellous dynamic football, they tactically overcame Italy and deserved their 1st place in the group of death! Keylor Navas, Bryan Ruiz, Joel Campbell and Duarte are my favourites now :)

France domination over Switzerland became a slight surprise for me. It seems like Didier Deschamps has prepared French players very well. They were showing the best football of all European teams.

The third set of group fixtures has started without surprises. Here we had a single question: Mexico or Croatia? The match and permit to the knockout round was won by more dynamic and physically better trained Mexicans. I will support them against Netherlands!

Dresden story

My Dynamo Dresden did deserve a right to play in the Champions League next season finishing at the 2nd position in Bundesliga. Now I want to share my minds regarding squad strength and positions where some changes should be made onwards.

Two or one? That is a question.

Should I continue rotation strategy with experienced Schmeichel and wonderkid Fabio?

Or may be it’s better to save $31K of payroll budget selling Kasper Schmeichel?

Central backs

Defender stats

Even Hovland was simply one of the best players in whole Dynamo Dresden squad. His second season in our club was even better than the first one. 5 MoMs confirm this fact.

I cannot be bragging about Andre Hoffmann and Lukas Spendlhofer. The first one was inefficient in air winning only 68% headers. So Hoffman can be efficiently used in the midfield only as a ball-winner or half back. Lucas Spendlhofer didn’t succeed much in ball tackling having the worst 79%.

Toni Leistner will merely leave the club on the Bosman rule. He doesn’t correspond the Champions League level and wants $25K-wage for a new contract.

My resolution

Central defence is an area number one for strengthening in summer. I have to seek for at least two strong DC.

Wing backs

See Wing backs profiles

Wing backs

Stefano Celozzi had 4.5 months of injuries, it caused a serious impact on his level of performance. Nevertheless, the German remains my main right wing back. At the same time Cece Pepe became a decent replacement, in particular reliable in ball tackling.

Left flank is shared between two promising guys Jaroslav Janda and Matija Panjkret. Both are not ready to play in Champions League for a while. However, Panjkret showed more or less decent football in comparison to underachieving Janda.

Good old Sebastian Boenisch will leave Dresden for free this summer.

Left flank of defence

My resolution

Well I would like to strengthen both flanks by new wing backs in case if any inexpensive options appear.

Central midfielders

See Midfielders profiles

Dresden MCs

Please take into consideration Dresden MCs were used in three roles according to all three tactics:

  • Ball-winning midfielder
  • Central midfielder
  • Box-to-box midfielder

Marko Pavlovski and Nouhourn Taboure didn’t almost played in the centre of the midfield. So we should look onto other names now.

Major concern is Izunna Uzochukwu who completely failed his debut season in Dynamo Dresden. Look at his 6.74 rating and mistake count (139 mistakes in 21(9) matches). I think he doesn’t deserve to stay and has to be sold somewhere.

Additionally, Stengel is leaving the team soon on the Bosman rule. He is outplaced by other midfielders during the last season.

My resolution

Don’t see any need for changes at MC position. Though who knows…

Inside forwards

Inside forwards - stats

I have very strong right flank where Pavlovski and his talented substitute Taboure dominate. As opposed to it, the left flank forwards are still in search of their best game. The largest stake should be made on very prospective William whose adaptation process still continues.

My resolution

I am not going to sign new inside forwards.

Central forwards

Central forwards

After departure of loaned Perica and Sassarini, I will remain with a single forward Milan Djuric. Stefaniak and William doesn’t suite to play in Complete Forward role, they cannot win headers. As such my resolution is very simple:

Try to buy Complete Forward better than Djuric.

Hint: It can be Stipe Perica whose contract will run out in June!
