Ode to Gylfi Sigurdsson

Hello! Welcome back to True Football Manager blog :-)

Normally I have a favourite player in every new Football Manager game. I tried to recall the favourites of all stories I had been posting here since 2007 and filled the table for you:

2011

Boston United Robson (regen)

2010

Leeds United Marco Verratti

2009

Hull Diego Buonanotte

2008

Southampton Dmytro Chygrynskyi

As you have surely understood from the post title, my clear favourite in Football Manager 2013 is Gylfi Sigurdsson. Even having Carlos Fierro in the squad as well.

I bought Gylfi during winter transfer window of season 5 from Man City. He was put on a transfer list because of high competition between central midfielders in Man City squad. I paid $17.5M and received a true squad leader and best Nottingham Forest assist maker of all times.

He fluently adapted into Triple C tactic system and has been feeling good at AMC position in the latest fluid direct tactics I implemented.

His attributes have recently started to decline a bit due to age. However, I still believe Gylfi is a key player for Nottingham Forest.

Set of PPMs Gylfi possesses

I don’t remember exactly but couple of these PPMs where learned by Gylfi under my management.

Pros and Cons

Pros:

1. Ability to score from free kicks. Best free kick taker in FM 2013 I’ve ever seen!

2. Exciting versatility. Possesses both feet great.

3. Sigurdsson can even score with a long shot. It’s a rare case in Football Manager 2013.

4. Simply the best Forest corner taker.

5. The best assister and one of the most reliable players for me. See Forest records.

Cons:

1. It’s hard to find any cons about Gylfi. Probably he is not that fast as could be. But it’s not so significant thing.

Gylfi’s stats

Brilliant average ratings, quantities of assists and scored goals just confirm my excitement of the prominent Icelander.

He got more competition in season 9 when I signed Younes Belhanda who has better attributes values at the moment. But anyway I still prefer to use Gylfi Sigurdssson in starting eleven. And he thanks me with great performance and never stops to make assists.

Stats of season 9

The latest example of his importance for the team is a match against Arsenal. I put Gylfi to a substitution bench preferring wide 4-2-3-1 with only one AMC position which was taken by Rodrigo. Unluckily, Rodrigo got injured by one of Arsenal players on the 28th minute and Gylfi came into play. He became one of the crucial players who provided confident 4:1 victory. Sigurdsson scored and assisted in the match.
