League Cup final: Forest vs Arsenal

Today’s post is just about the first (I hope not last) final in the season 5 of Nottingham Forest story.

Despite good form of my team Arsenal has still been considered as favourites. It’s pretty easy to understand they have even greater run without defeats and even draws. Moreover, the Gunners is the most inconvenient opponent for me in FM 2013. The head-to-head screen shot below confirms this fact.

Arsenal had a superb series of wins before the Final

Wow! Simply wow!

Arsenal series[4]

I had been frightened by the amazing form of Arsenal so much before the final that I set up wrong formation. Just forgot about the weather conditions and started with the counter-attacking 4-1-2-1-2 tactics.

However, then I saw a wall of water pouring onto the pitch and switched to the classic 4-4-2. Antonio Conte as a head coach of Arsenal decided to give rest to several leaders Oliver Giroud, Alexander Milosevic (former Forest centre back), Fabio Borini. It was a clear mistake by the Italian.

Nottingham Forest – Arsenal 2:0

My team lifted League Cup two times in a row! I can accept congratulations :)

Though it wasn’t an easy game. Arsenal had a couple of good chances when safe performance of my goalie Samir Handanovic came to the help. Alex Oxlaid-Chambarlain was the most dangerous attacker among Arsenal players. He replaced youngster Judge on the 49 minute. Four minutes earlier Olivier Giroud and Karim Benzema appeared instead of Bojan and young Haley. So they had a much stronger first eleven in the second half.

Here are the match stats:

Nottm Forest seized all 100% goal chances. Lucas Podolski bagged one goal from rebound to his former club. I would single out a key role of Ademilson in both goals.

After the goals I tried to freeze the game under downpour shouting:

  • Retain Possession
  • Play Narrower
  • Pass Ball into Feet
  • Work Ball into Bo

The tactical change has worked fine .

Goals by Lucas Podolski and Thomas Drage

Mitchell Hewitt as usually grabbed the Man of the Match Award.

Price of victory

Injury of Lascelles

It’s very sad to loose Jamaal Lascelles for 2-3 months. He is Nottingham Forest captain, and I feel this injury may influence my plans to finish in TOP 4 of Premier League this year. The task becomes complicated because Forest is still among FA Cup and Europa League contenders.

Lascelles’s injury means Danny Batth will constantly play in pair with Mitchell Hewitt. Possible replacements for main centre backs are:

  • Yaroslav Rakiskyi (DLC)
  • Eneko Navarro (DC)

Some League Cup stats in the end

Ademilson is obviously the best League Cup player this season! I adore this smart Brazilian forward.
