Dear blog readers,
Another Nottingham Forest story post today. It’s season 5 beginning. Well actually, I have already reported about the first matches in the last post about promoted youth. Now it’s time to uncover results of August, September, and almost whole October.
Here I have, if we take official matches only, 10 wins and 4 losses. There are no draws at all. Quite good start as for me.
3 lost games lingered my attempt to climb with Forest into Top-4. But it’s OK because of squad changes and strength of Arsenal, Manchester United, and Newcastle. Moreover, I have one spare match to play later on.
Leading Arsenal had been headed by Antonio Conte during off-season and had an amazing transfer campaign. I think season 5 may become the first one which will not be won Manchester United :)
According to my feelings, it was definitely the best game of all I’m reporting now. Samir Handanovic saved penalty. Hughes-Ademilson pair organized hugely important goal on the 85th minute and proved their class. Then Thomas Drage seized on a defence’s error and bagged the second goal.
Mitchell Hewitt was merely an air king.
Amazing efficiency by Podolski-Ademilson pair was shown against Norwich. You may see all their goals at my FM Crowd blog.
Worst match. Newcastle – Forest 2:0
No chances at all. It was the first PL match, very disappointing one. Forest had a blatant inactivity of attackers and some mayhem in defence.
My debut game in Europa League group became the anniversary 200th match with Nottingham Forest. It’s great my boys managed to win it having much of advantage on a pitch.
Mirror-like match versus Fenerbache. The Turkish side impressed with high pressing and ball control. Bennett and Podolski nearly managed to bring a comeback draw but it would be unfair result. By the way, their squad is quite strong and half of players would strengthen Forest.
Nevertheless, all struggle is ahead. Two away matches and home battle with Fenerbache. I feel Nottingham Forest is better than other group competitors.
Here is also my tactics report. I thought it would be interesting for you to glance. All three tactics of Triple C approach are in action. One may try to compare their efficiency but there’s not sense. It’s impossible because I uses the tactics in different situation. For instance, 4-2-3-1 is generally used at home against weaker opponents.
Late transfers during deadline day
Last transfer window days resulted in few squad changes for Nottingham Forest. Adam Smith was loaned out to Celtic. Instead I bought Seamus Coleman to strengthen right flank. He is an equivalent level defender as Neil Eardley. But I like him more.
Firstly, I’d like to single out three strikers. Ademilson, Bennett, Podolski scored excellent number of goals each. Ademilson played less than other two forwards because of injury. Vice versa attacking midfielders haven’t been shining so much as usually. All of them except Will Hughes have average ratings between 6.6 and 7.1.
I am satisfied much with Ignjovski, my new ball-winning midfielder. He tackles ball like crazy.
Mitchell Hewitt – Forest best player
His height is more than 2 meters. He is really becoming the best Nottingham Forest player. Mitchell Hewitt is already main defender of national team together with Lascelles. And he started fantastically in the season having average rating above 8.
Lucas Podolski – world class poacher
Lucas Podolski made a great debut in Nottingham Forest scoring 11 goals in 12 matches. What could be more significant for striker? His left foot is simply amazing.
Euro Cup. Battle between Forest, Twente and Fenerbache promises to be really serious. All teams have 6 points after the first 3 rounds. I have two away matches and the last decisive against Turkish club at home.
Premier League progress should continue. It seems Nottm Forest can really fight for Champions League position this year. Club newcomers Podolski, Ignjovski, Batth perform well though assistant manager reports they are still on the way to adapt in team. That’s why I expect the team to show even better performance. The matches against Man City and Totthenham will become serious tests for us.
I am sad about getting 4 times in row Premier League winners as opponents at the quite early stage of League Cup. We have never manage to win against Manchester United. Just 2 draws and 3 scored goals in 8 games :(
Head-To-Head: Manchester United
