Nottingham Forest. A dawn of the new grand club.

Hello my dear readers,

Almost half of the 5th season is passed and you see the post title. Now I really have feeling my Nottingham Forest is able to achieve success in any tournament. Sure we cannot battle for title with two Manchester clubs but all squad areas and all tactics work wonderfully. That’s why the post is full of proofs and hopes! Premier League table goes the first.

PL table

Now one may see Nottingham Forest should compete for Champions League place with Arsenal, Tottenham, and Chelsea.

By the way, poor Liverpool and especially Aston Villa. They are relegation candidates this year!

Here you may see 5 goals by central backs scored from corners: 3 - Hewitt, 1 - Batth, 1 – Lascelles.. Finally, I managed to find some kind of working  scheme for corners. Next post is going to be about it.

In total Forest played 14 games which include 10 wins, 1 draw, 3 losses. Interesting all defeats were just accidents, nothing more.

West Brom

Despite so large gap in score, we should get a draw in this one. There were two posts by Wallace and Podolski, weird own goal from Danny Batth, penalty mistake by Lansbury, and too poor positioning of newbie Seamus Coleman that led to two last goals.

Similar events but in lesser amount happened in home loss to Burnley.

Burnley

Ole Kristian Selnaes managed to get a red card on the 4th minute and it broken my attacking plans. I had to change 4-2-3-1 control tactics onto 4-1-2-1-2 counter attacking one without DMC.

Former Forest and current Burnley goalie Carlos Kameni became the best player in the match.

Best match. Forest – Southampton 4:0

I decided to give some rest to Lucas Podolski and trust Poacher role to Mason Bennett. He thanked me being an incredible goal scorer against the Saints! Hat-trick by Bennett! We have never had such an easy game against Southampton.

League Cup. Seizing on grands’ decisions not to use the first squads

When I got Manchester United as a League Cup opponent, I thought it’s the end. But they decided to use too many substitution players as well as Man City in the next round. Both Manchester grands paid for that because I made selection of the best Forest players for League Cup matches against them.

Our semi final opponent is Stoke City.

Europa League

EL group of Nottingham Forest

It wasn’t easy group from one hand. From another hand I had only one away match with Fenerbache where opponent showed better football and closed down my team. All other five matches were under Forest control, even the egregious accidental loss to Ajaccio.

I am happy Nottm Forest managed to revenge Fenerbache and win the first place in the group.

Forest players

Two first team players Drage and Rakistkyi got injured for a long-term. However, it doesn’t really hinder much because even one of the weakest position of left back has been confidently covered by backup DL Lee Wallace.

One of uncommon facts for now is that weaker Mason Bennett scores more and plays better than experienced German striker Lucas Podolski. English talent continues to thrive despite his very low progress during trainings. Currently Mason is the top Forest goal scorer while Podolski somewhat declined.

Mitchell Hewitt is of course the best player. 9 PoMs in 18 matches – something unreal! The guy is wanted by Manchester United and Manchester City. He is also a candidate to win Golden European Boy award this year!

Jonjo Shelvey as defensive CM

Jonjo Shelvey in FM2013

Hewitt is wonderful, though this time I would like to single out Jonjo Shelvey who uncovered another side of his talent in my eyes. He plays great as defensive central midfielder or ball-winning MC. Jonjo’s determination and ability to fight for ball works makes miracles.  He is a “new Steven Gerrard”.

New stars are coming! Whom should I sell?

Latest very good results are emphasized by two new players who are going to join Forest on the New Year. I spent more than $30M to strengthen midfield buying stellar attacking midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson and advanced playmaker Joe Allen.

Both footballers will certainly become key Forest players. That’s why I feel I should sell two existing midfielders. I am not sure who should leave. Hope you will help me using the below-placed stats. Please select one MC and one AMC to sell using the stats.

As for me Tom Cleverley is one of the candidates. His salary of $130K is too high for the level of shown performance this and last year. He’s candidate #1. Perhaps you don’t agree. Please write  comments and advise me who should leave the team.

Second round draw

Very lucky draw in Europa League promises qualification of Nottingham Forest into TOP-8.

And this is the row of all upcoming matches. Forest has so tight schedule at first. We’ll see how I manage to cope using the current squad depth.
