Champions League debut of Hull in FM2009

As you know I finished the last season with Hull on the 3rd position in the Premier League. So Champions League debut was prepared for Hull in the new one.

Champions League

My club got to Champions League automatically by new rules of Euro cups that are already being used in the real life. During a draw I got to an average Group G with Atletico Madrid, Dortmund and Olympiakos. Well and now after the first four fixtures I am glad to inform you that:

Hull have qualified for First Knockout Round, FM2009

4 pretty easy victories! By the way, 3 of them were produced by the second squad of Hull! Cool And only away game against Atletico made me to be cautious and use the best players of the team. Therefore I don’t even know what to tell about these four CL matches apart from calling them were easy ones.

Group G with Atletic Madrid, Olympiakos, Dortmund

I have started to think that The Tigers could win the tournament! Winking

Premier League table and matches

English Premier League is a more complicated tournament for me at the moment. In spite of high competition in the Euro zone places The Tigers have wondered everyone making a very good start. 7 victories, 2 draws and 1 loss in 10 matches! Now we are following Arsenal and Manchester United and going to fight for our first title! Cowboy

Matches

First matches of Hull in season #6, FM2009

The best and most stuck in memory match is the one against Arsenal. The Tigers merely demolished English champions with the 3:0 score! Here you can see player ratings of this game:

Hull - Arsenal 3:0, FM2009

Milovan Rakic and Ramires were real leaders during this tough game. Interesting fact that Arsenal was the last team in Premier League that didn’t loose any match to Hull before!

Secondly, I would like to single out one of the most emotional games: Hull – Chelsea 3:2. As normally for matches against grand-clubs it was equal performance from both sides. But magic Hull’s newcomer Diego made a beautiful long shot to a top corner on the 88th minute and brought us another 3 points! You may see that only newbies Diego and Brand were goalscorers from our side in this surely important match. Applause

Hull - Chelsea 3:2, Diego is fantastic, FM2009

Player statistics

Ok, if I have started to talk about the player bought during the latest transfer window then I will add some words about them:

- I am happy with Diego! He plays smart and technical football. Diego feels himself good on position of MC with often forward runs. Though he is still adapting to the team style.

- Manuel Brand. At the moment he is my best central defender I think! Though Chyzhov and Pashaev (especially Pashaev) are very good in the start of this season!

- Alex Witsel. Well, I don’t feel what position does for him. And his rating is slightly below 7.00 because of this.

- Christian Giani. Young Italian DMC is a substitution player for Eugene Shakhov currently. I hope he will train well because now he is a bit below of level demanded by Hull manager Happy.

Players statistics in the beginning of season #6, FM2009

And I would also like to single out top 3 players of the season start:

1. Milovan Rakic – performs better and better scoring goals and making assists!  He resembles me Thierry Henry with his speed, technique and smart head.

2. Ramires – simply the leader of team.

3. Darwin Suarez – the most flamboyant attacking player of Hull. His dribbling is almost unstoppable! In my opinion Suarez is Hull’s Messi! Happy Moreover, he made 7 assists out of 11(1) matches!

P.S. This is the post #200 in my blog!

    Hi!

I've been following your blog for a long time now and must say that I'm impressed with the job that you've been doing with Hull :-)

    Since I'm playing FM09 myself, I have a question:

Where do Davide Santon and Francesco Bolzoni play now in your save?

    Keep up the good work!

Hey Vitaliy, I am currently managing Sunderland on FM 09 and challenging for the title in the 3rd season :). However, those big clubs keep trying to tempt my players, and thus cause squad harmony to drop to abyssal lows... Since I rarely see the (Unh) thing in your screenshots, how do you deal with the issue of people wanting to leave? Thanks.

BTW, great job with Hull! Sunderland is so much easier cos of the massive transfer budget haha :)

    @ yu dong

when that happens and i really don't want a specific player to leave, i just put an astronomic ask price for the player like 63M. They shouldnt bother u anymore. althought u should do that before the player becomes "unh", cus its harder to make him happy again.

Btw Vitality, i bought wietsel for my zaragoza team (just won the 2nd legaue) and althouth he can play in various positions i think he playes better as an AMC or AMR.

Well done Vitaliy, a fantastic start to the Champions League. The knock-out rounds is where it really gets tricky though!! Best of luck with Hull and I am sure in the future your team will win the Premier League and the Champions League

  13. robbo Says:

i finished 4th with blackpool in the prem and it put me UEFA cup not the Champions League but put 5th place in the Champions League, i did win the league cup but that should not make a diffrance should it???

  14. Yu Dong Says:

    @robbo

Did the club in 5th position win the Champions League that year? Then they are allowed to qualify for the Champions League under EPL rules.

I finally qualify to continental cup(after 8 fm years) in my game but it´s a litle disapointing because many teams are really weak... i have a theory :
In the beginning of my game i just load the database team of Brazil, Mexico and Argentina, and well in Libertadores Cup the teams of any other nation is very very weak maybe because the form of those teams???, if i load more leagues in the database can i taste what a real continental cup is???.

i think my team was so superb(my addiction rating is: Football manager expert after 12 days) but maybe its just a lack of form of my opponents.... :(

if my theory is right, Vitally maybe thats the reason why your teams looks so superbe in the champions league...

Hello, qualified for UEFA cup this season with Stoke City! i'm starting season 2012/13..
    my team is:
    Craig Gordon

Santon Steven Taylor Onuoha/Shawcross Vasco Regini (my best player last year, really improved)

    Carioca as defensive

Got barry, ramsey, dzagoev, and palacios as my senter midfielders..

Teixeira, Wilshere, Marquinhos, Douglas Costa, as my wingers..

And here's my problem.. my only attackers are Sturridge and victor moses, and I need a first choice in my hunting to Champions League... Just sold C Benitez to AC milan, my top goalscorer..
any ideas for an goalscoring forward?
