Here is the description so awaited patch fixing those numerous bugs encountered in FM2009 demo - Football Manager 2009 v9.1.0 change list.

I made the analysis of the changes and singled out the most important ones:
Compatibility
- Fixed Intel 900 series not being able to run in 3D (including the Intel 950 GMA chipset)
- Handling cases of Intel drivers incorrectly reporting the vertex shader model.- Improved compatibility for detecting graphics cards with pixel shaders but below the minimum specifications that could cause the game not to launch.
- Improved compatibility with splash screen movies on below minimum specification hardware that could cause the game not to launch.
General
- Reduced player condition drop in the off-season
- Fixed bug where user would sometimes not be able to team talks to be controlled by assistant manager
Interface
- When viewing the draw for the Euro Cup group phase, the groups are now shown correctly
- Characters no longer sometimes print twice after a key press in full screen mode 
- Fixed a bug where sometimes when changing captain in a match the wrong player would be shown as captain on the player ratings panel
Match Viewer
- Animations (e.g. kicks, saves, headers, tackles) now synchronised better with actual ball contact
- Match time slider can now be used to view the whole match and not just highlights
- Fixed user not being able to go to tactics screen at half time in extra time in TV view
- Tactics buttons in TV View go to team talk at full time
Manager/Player Interaction
- Fixed problem if a player outright rejects learning a new PPM, you then have to wait a long time before you can request that they learn a new PPM
Press Conferences
- Questions about who will win the title come up less frequently
- Questions about who will win the title not asked when destination of title has already been decided
- Fixed bug where the PR reactions weren't showing after your assistant takes a press conference
- Fixed defender being chosen as possible threat in a question
Match Engine
- Improved short free kicks taken at 30 yards out or more
- Created some limited ball and player movement When players stand and hold ball up waiting for options
- Reduced ratio of serious injuries compared to light ones in match
- Fixed bug where player chasing ball can suddenly move at superhuman speed
- Fixed AI managers illogical use of 424 when no need
- Less shots from free kicks in wide areas
- Fixed bug where player sometimes stands close to but never picks up a motionless ball
- Fixed bug where player can get near zero match rating for no obvious reason

hey, ive just got the game, on disc format. If i download the patch will it be in affect for my game already started? Also, im gonna manage arsenal and afc wimbledon from the blue square south, gonna make them a massiv club hopefully! Maybe cheating slightly using my arsenal team!!!
From my experience with previous Versions Of The Fm/Cm series if you have started a game before installing the patch the best option is to start a new game as Bug fixe's will be still done to your save game, but database errors such as wrong finances etc, will not be applied, as for the injury bug i wouldnt be sure if it will be fixed if you continue a Version 9.0.0 game
Can't even play the game! Downloaded in online through stream and won't confirm my activation online and the phone activation is not working either! www.sigames.com is closed for essential maintenance! After buying the game for $50 online I kind of expect it to work! didn't Si realise there would be a lot of people trying to access their website today?
i have the same problem, all the help phonelines aren't working the websites are down, it's pathetic.
it just keeps saying it can't activate cause it can't connect to the internet but there is no problem at all with my internet.
Having problems activating the same as probably half a million other buyers. First of all all it was like the Divinci Code trying to work out why my cd key wouldnt work now it wont activate. Si and Sega have a lot of questions to be answered especialy as we cant get on Si webside. And whats the idea behind the stupid STEAM thing to be a success you improve on what you have dont change it. I am Disgusted by this let down and if your waiting on a copy dont bother wasting your money. I played about for about 4 hours now and still not into the game.
i've been eagerly anticipating the arrival of the fm2009. now that it's finally out, i can't f*****g play the game! it was hell trying to figure out the stupid product code and then when i finally got it to work, it says it can't connect to the internet. and my internet works perfectly fine. also can't get through to sigames.com. It's so f******g annoying! also, whats with the steam bulls**t? why did they just leave it as it was last year without all this palava? argh! so f******g pissed off!
The same here...It is a shame. Steam sucks. You can't even play the game with 2 accounts at the same time. Activation isn't working. What the hell?! SI + Sega: what are you doing!?

I've got the same activation problem any idea when this will be fixed.
Twice, I've entered my activation code over the phone and I've just been cut off on both occasions. This is ridiculous.
i have just bought the game in the UK.
online activation said my internet couldnt connect when it clearly is working.
phone activation doesnt connect and when it did connect it said it couldnt give me the response code.
i just hope it isnt going to take a week to fix.

this is fucking ridiculous,i have been looking forward for months and 5hours after having it i still cant play it. i uninstaled twice and on the third go, it actually came up with steam! i thought it was going to work but was all that wa sdoe its gone back to the same old problem with softanchor saying it cant connect to the internet or it was unable to process th ecod eand i have to purchase another one, i am fucking pissed off. any suggestions???

Everybody keep calm! theres nothing wrong with your game so dont uninstall it. And yes you can connect to the internet even though you are getting a response saying "cannot connect" this is because from what i can gather the sigames.com website is down, probably timed out due to demand.
I just hope they get it working pretty soon! However i dont agree with the message on here saying they want them all to die in a car crash!

A solution is in place and is starting to clear the problem, we are confident that the issue will be solved today. The chances of successful authentication are increasing hourly. At this point consumers still experiencing difficulties are advised to leave a 10 minute gap between authentication attempts.

Well i played the demo, awesome, better then last year, i guess the rather big drawback is, unlike last years the one i just bought today wont f8cking work... yet - i'll try and stay calm...
I have played the fm series and champ man since they started!! One thing I have noticed about si is they never do things properly, when you buy a new fm it always needs a patch or three, and this activation system is a joke, why weren't they prepared?? and what the hell is this steam for fm about!! Its rubbish!!

each key code varies from game to game so each one is unique
thats handy, so just try try try try try try try every 10mins is what sega have said, all down to congestion on the web site apparently. just for the record mine is still goosed so i can't say this is true.

Those of you experiencing trouble deciphering the 0 and O’s or the 1 and I's in your unlock code, please enter the code as you understand it into the above URL.
You will then be presented with the correct key, which you can copy and paste into the activation screen.

Persons experiencing an Error [-51] or [-52] when trying to activate their copy of the game should follow the instructions below.
The error messages relate to a failure to create a licence [-51] and failure to read from a licence [-52]. Therefore, the problem lies with the file system access and is not contributable to firewall programs. Anti-virus programs may be a contributing factor, this is still under investigation - we would ask that you follow the process below 'with' anti-virus on and if you are still failing to activate, please reboot and turn off antivirus.
1) On receiving the error, please uninstall the game
2) Please navigate to the following directory:
XP users: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2009 Certificate
Vista users: C:\Program Data\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2009 Certificate
3)Please ensure that it is the \certificate directory you are located in
4) Delete all content
5) Reboot the machine
6) Re-run the installation programme and retry activation - ensuring you have 'verified' your key using the following website: http://keylookup.fm2009.softanchorinsight.com/
7) You should now be activated
If you are unable to activate, please try the following:
A)**VISTA USERS ONLY** Re-run the process above, when at Step (6) - try running the installer under Adminstrator privileges (you need to locate the Setup.exe file, right click and 'Run as Administrator)

Guys i got the game delivered yesterday and have been trying to activate for 9 hours now.
i know Sega are aware of the issue but there support site has just stated that it is better to try Saturday/Sunday to activate to let them clear the back log

I have purchased the FM 2009 CD and I am trying to authorize the game via STEAM. When I enter the Product Key, I simply recieve the message 'THIS INSTALLATION COULD NOT BE ACTIVATED FOR THE FOLLOWING REASON: APPLICATION UNABLE TO CONNECT TO INTERNET'. Well, I AM CONNECTED to the Internet so I am really unsure why this message appears ???? Please help!!!

You are getting the Not Connected error message because the SIGames website and servers crashed at 11pm last night and are still not back on line.
Best bet is to keep trying www.sigames.com and when that site is active so will the activation area.
Could have cracked game like some of me mates, but I thought no, if everyone did it then no more FM - so i'll pay.

yes there is a database editor, and it works with out activation, so in this time i been re-aranging stuff, like putting judas redknapp over to tottenham.

go to computer > C: > program files > sports > interactive > FM09 > tools > data editor
p.s using the sh*tty steam thing means for components didnt instal on my computer, the fm file was empty. so it only owkrs as i can see if you install it using the other option ... still the activation dont work, but the ediditor appears

Yeah it was working earlier, I managed to activate it at work on my laptop but my mate couldnt do his. I got home and same SH*T for 3 hours. My mate replaced his game but same SH*T.

GETTIN ERRORS 703 & 1003 any1 know what to do??
You could try snapping the disk in half? It wouldn't really help but it'd make you feel in control for about 0.5 of a second.............otherwise you can do the same as me and sit like a lemon in front of your computer for 6 hours and each time it tries to activate say a small prayer.

got the authentication code put in after 3 different installations and 3 hours.

am in just uninstalled everything to do with fm 2009 then re installed it through the unico pish or watever its called all lowcase for the product key and kaboom it worked . thank you god lol . just trying for the patch now hope it dusnt fcuk it up heres praying lol
hey people, uninstall ur game etc... then take out your internet plug.... then put disc in and it installs itself using somthing else not steam....

Game play gets slower as SI get further up their own arses.
Give us our addictive FUN game back instead of lists of training exercises dots to indicate players and frigging 'steam' powered activation cobblers.

Latest statemtn from si game / steam network:
We advise users of the football manager 2009 series to try using the steam off their poo to make the game work. It works so much better and is alot easier and quicker. The steam from the poo exerts heat energy into the game . So bake a poo, whip it on a plate and hover the game above it, simple. Alternatively users can buy poo from the si website for £10.00.(This is not another money making scheme, so don't worry.)

once the game is installed you don't need to use steam. It can be closed down and never be opened again if you ask me. just go to the steam folder click on SteamApps then click common and you will see the football manager 2009 folder open it and copy a short cut to the desktop. No more crappy steam!

Just wondered if it was only me, or anyone had also noticed a compatibilty issue, as the disc version will not run on a sony drive, any sony drive. I took my laptop in to a computer shop to find out the game would not run on any sony drive in the shop yet worked perfectly fine on any other make of drive, What the hell do i do now!! i have a sony vaio which destroys the minimum specs and yet i can play as it wont even recognise the disc! help...
got it 2day n was very easy to install. I had no problems n it didn't take long
This is what i did when i got the game ...yes it says do you want to use stream to activate the game and yes i did the same with where i saw cannot connect..pissed ....
So i put the disc back in the cd player and when it comes up with the options how do you want to activate it choose internet/telephone...the game will then install and it will activate it just like when you install windows...if you are on the internet...

i've been searching for what seems to be 9 years, where is the data editor? ive noticed some poeple have had the same problem, others havent so i assume there is one!

right guys ive had a play wiv installing this game. install the game again and when it asks for the connection thing. instead of using the high lighted connection click on the one below it saying about a phone line. this should install the game properly wiv out this stream thing. i had the same problem at first. oh yeah another thing the data editor doesn't work.
nah im still having problems too. Its ridiculous. i preordered this about a month ago and i still cant play it even though ive been trying since 10 o clock yesterday morning.

Hi,im at my wits end here,been trying to get it to work for 36hrs now and no joy,now my little girl has spilt her milk all over the booklet and the code is unreadable can anyone give me a code till i ort mine out tomorrow,would be very grateful thanks
This is shocking from sega and steam to do this to people when they have bought the game. i have managed to get the game running but its so unstable that the game locks up so i will need to install the patch. Sega have done alot of damage to themselves with this crap activation process.
I kno its a disgrace i can't even get mine on now cos im stuck at home with little girl and cant see wot the code says. Will have to take it back the shop tomorrow see if they can help!!!!!!!!! So wana play it too
I have spent the last 2 hours trying to sort out its instructions on the production key; finally the computer 'phone woman' told me it was complete, but oh no, back to stage 1 on my computer!!! this is ridiculous; i have paid to be completely frustrated for my afternoon, added to the charge of 2 hours on the phone at an extortionate rate.. oh well, i dont pay the phone bill at least.

Found 3 wonderkids already, You have to buy Steven Defour and Alex Witsel from Standard Liege and Douglas Costa from Gremio.

I found the Data Editor by typing in data editor in the start search box on the start menu on windows vista then pasting a shortcut to the desktop and loading from there

Hi - the only laptop the game works fastest on does not have internet access. Is it possible to download the patch on another laptop and then put it on a memory stick and transport the patch on to the faster laptop? The amount of injuries is crazy. Will the new patch work on already started saved game? Cheers

the patch will fix the problem on your saved game. I can confirm this by my experience managing Hull from FM 2009 demo.

I seem to be the only one who didnt have much problem install or play this game, but i can see that some of you guys also have problem with the data editor after installing the game via steam. It complains about wrong configuration and that i should reinstall the game.
If anyone have a solution plz post it.
my experience so far with FM2009: I installed it and its steam program with the ambition to play right away... but steam had to download the patch, annoyed as I was I waited and then played for the first time in 3D!!!!. because I was further delayed and annoyed by steam I uninstalled it and FM09 with it and reinstalled FM09 without steam. The game now plays BUT.. 3D is gone and I cannot view the games in 3D no matter what I do. any hints?

im really disappointed with FM 2009 at first i could not decode the key code, then once i managed to figure that out and register the game on the internet, now I cant play the game because of all these errors that prevent the game from starting. Ive been playing FM since 2006 and now im forced to play Championship Manager because i cant get this game to work. Nevr Again.
