HullDifficulties with Hull and tactics in FM 2009
My problems with the debut season of Hull in Premier League have been continuing since the very start of the game. The latest results of my club are:
Looking grievous… Here you can see only 3 wins with our competitors Fulham, West Brom and Stoke. Plus home 2 draws with Sunderland and Blackburn. All other matches were lost 
. Some of them – with the large scores….
And, as a result, I have 9 points distance between so desired 17th position and 20th that belongs to Hull. 12 fixtures left till the end of the season…
Concerning my feelings about performance of the players… unfortunately, I can say my defence started making more mistakes that bring to goals. Meanwhile forwards are still very inefficient in attack. Marlon King was returned back from loan because he cannot score goals – a lot of poor shots. I was angry at him 
! Cousin is the best our forward… nevertheless he missed a lot of key chances and scored only 6 goals in Premier League.
Trying to resolve these problems I sold the following players:
And bought the bunch of new ones:
Kamil Zayatte was on the loan in Hull for the first half of season and his transfer had been already decided (as in the real life). Other guys apart from Vuckic were bought for strengthening of the first squad. I have the biggest hopes about Iain Hume – best scorer in Coca-Cola Championship in my game 
. He should add efficiency on the last stage of attacks. His attributes:
Frankly speaking, I’m feeling disappointed because I don’t have good tuned tactics yet. My 4-3-1-2 with 3MCs and 1AMC is pretty poor. And it seems that in the changed Football Manager engine this tactics doesn’t suit to weak teams and I must use something with wingers. Because I see that there are too much attacks from flanks that end with crosses in this Football Manager 2009 . Ok, I will continue my tactical tryouts…

Super-Pippo was transfer listed by Milan. And they set his price to 90K. Though his official price was cheap too - something like 500K.
The main reason of all this is that his contract is getting to the end in summer.
Actually, his physical attributes are pretty average and he hasn't score even one goal during his first 4 matches for Hull...
vitaley, nice to see your trying not to get relagated, how is your job security? Will you still be managing hull if you do get demoted?

you should try using 4-4-2 tactics...i've been using it for my 1st season with juventus and won serie a and lost in the final of champions legaue.....of coure i understand the difference beetween hull and juve...

I can't Believe it happend, but that damm "famous" Application Error came and now I can't play Football Manager 2009.
I thought that this stupid bug will be fixed in this version but as you see, it didn't....

why not try 4-1-4-1 tactic. just using one striker, and try to play counter attack, with good passing midfield and speedy striker.
Simply i give u a tactic and tips
Change to 4-1-2-1-2 with 1 dmf, two winger one amc and to solid striker that have good pace , finish, stamina and composure.
Try to snap up some old player like rivaldo and nedved
Set your two winger and two defender on the wing to center the ball for the tarjet man.

Vitaly, your 4-3-3 tactic just work wonders on FM 2009, you should try it,2 fast strikers and a good heading/finishing one for the center FW and you should be ok, The midfield you need 2 guys with high Workrate and another somehow creative since midfielders score a lot of goals.

I am using your 4-3-3 and its the best tactics i ever played with.
You shouldn't have bought so many players... it will take longer for them to get along :/

I am managing West brom and lying 10th. my tactic is 5-3-2. 3 defence centre, 2 wing backs, 2 dm, 1 amc and 2 strikers.
setting are somewhat deep defending and closing down whole pitch.
my reinforcements are alexandre song on loan, and darcheville from rangers as target man. and second striker is Jack Tuyp from Volendam. he has some nice stats.
this tactic really works. won 1-0 from liverpool. there are a lot of defenders but still room for quick attack.

as many say you should try 4-4-2 basic formation, im running this with team settings to attack, play wide and defenders to play deep with tight marking and counter attack.
Im using this with Stoke City and im currently 12th with biggest wins coming from Chelsea 2-1, Liverpool 2-0, Arsenal 1-0, Villa 3-1 and many more.
sorry wanted to add that Sebastien Abreu is the main reason for me being so successful...

They normally have geovani behind the 2 Strikers and Boateng or ashbee as the holding mid
There is a thread over on the SI games tactics forum right now showing a guy using Hull with a specific tactic and finishing 5th. You should check it out for ideas it looks like it is working well for many people.
There is no doubt that FM09 is a very hard game, much harder than 08. I would think playing as Hull would be very difficult to get good results so don't be too disappointed.
Ok, guys, who propose me different tactics. I have already started to try new one - 4-4-2 with AML and AMR. May be it's somewhat risky but the results of the first 2 games confirm that it's worth trying!
Yes, I bought too many players. I agree that some time is needed for their adaptation in the team. Another risky step :)

Just finished my 1st season with arsenal, and Won the league, undefeated, champions league and semis of both cups! I bought asenjo, camouranesi, palombo, and santon.
My tactics vary on the opposition, either and counter attacking 4-4-2 (for tough away games), a short passing attacking 4-4-2 (average away games), A direct 4-2-2-2 (most home games) with attacking wingers, and finally a 4-2-4 playing very direct (home games when im dominating but not scoring)! This is good for breaking teams down who come to my ground to draw!
This has been very successful, only conceding 16 league goals and getting 94 points. Adebayor scored 40 goals but ive had no consistancy from anyone else! Camouranesi was a great buy, just a bit old!
To adapt it to Hull i'd use a counter attacking system for most games, use 2 DM and find good wingers with high crossing! Hope this helps, took me 2 different starts to find decent tactics, in previous FMs ive used tactics similar to yours with a good AM with great results!

Play all defence, you can try 4-1-2-1-2 with 1 DMC, 2 CM, 1 AMF and 2 ST and play widely that can be easily you striker get the ball in counter.
Try it until you can get your first win in with this tactic
if ur still having tactics difficulties after u tryed the 4-4-2 u may as well try a 4-4-1 with the dl and dr with an arrow up with 2 MC with an arrow back and with 1 AMC(with a free role and forward runs if u have a good one) AML AMR with a bit of atacking mentality a bit more than normal crative freeding,a quick tempo but not too quick :P,closing down almost the whole pich and having the defence pushing up with olympiacos i got the greek superleagueand i got to the quarter finals of euro cup in the first season.if u manage to keep ur self on the premierleague wich doesnt seems so hard since ur only 9 points away from it :P try fixing ur midfield with francesco bolzoni from inter reserver and italy u21 the guy has 20 work rate lots of bravery 12 crativity 17 teamwork and goot accelaration agility pace etc.also he has accurate passes and his prefered move is to play simple passes(u certainly need some1 to pass with 100% accuracy while atacking :P)his marking and tackling are also very good.
4-4-1-1 are the tactics i missed the last 1 :(

I made new trainings but they are almost the same as from FM2008, I think :))
My results with 4-2-2 are better and seems like we will get real intrigue in the end of the season!
So far i have completed 1 season in the promei league woth blackburn rovers. I did pretty well finishing 3rd. I used 4-1-3-1-1 which is quite effective against the bigeer teams. Using 1 AMC, DMC, CM,and two wingers. Also there are some very good cheap players like Keirrison from Cortbia, Tiago Silva, Jermey Methieu, Emerson from AC Milan and Rivaldo. Also i bought some expensive players like Di Maria from Benfica, Fernandinho from Shaktar Diego Buonanotte from Boca. Most of the money came from sellin Sata Cruz to Man City for $52 million. :P
For the second season i have made big signings like miguel velesso, Mathias fernandez, Fredrico Vilar as GK and Venegor of Hesselink fro free and Domenico Criscito from Juventus.
4-2-3-1 should do. loan fabio and rafael from united and u should have great cover on the wings at the back. I started with Real Betis. I was really poor until I found the right formation. Now I'm in January lying behind leaders Real and Barca, when i was predicted to be lying at the 13th place

Use strong DM with high value of tackling
for MC you can post a creative player with high attribute of atacking.
and for the AM/WG look for explosive player with high finishing and dribling attribute
i dont like to use a terget man, so i set my striker to FC with some changes setting.

mate i was hull and i came 7th in the premier league.Firstly i baught a new keeper, then i sold some crap players and baught new ones, for example Sebastien Abreu, olexandr chyzhoz and masilela in my first season. the tactics i used were a 3-2-3-2. 3 centre backs, 2 wing backs, 3 center midfielders and two strikers. i often changed tactics but thats the one i used most.
I started a new game with Hull and with 15 games in charge I'm with 12 points and 17th. I've won Everton 1:0, Stoke 3:1 and M'boro 2:1. I've also 3 draws and 9 lost games. Drawns against ManUtd 0:0, Arsenal 1:1 and Fulham 1:1.
I'm 2 points clear from relegation. Trying to avoid that. Good luck in Championship ;)
I am hull right now. I was relegated,and i was pissed so i sold almost every one.. the only two "original" hull players are Turner and Boateng, i ended in 6th palce of championship, with this team

for my hull i got mike pollit from wigan for about 700k after sold a a lot of ppl like windass barmby myhill warner etc and i bought paul smith from nottm forest gerardo terrardo from cruz azul (very good player for hull) and ludovic mangin from sruttgart only played couple of games lost 2-1 too arsenal BUT beat liverpool 2-0 :D
well, folan is a great striker..
i use him for the 1st season..
the first thing we should do is buy bolzoni..
he is kinda cheap, he can be got by 2.2 poundsterling..
then, sign landon donovan for free..
get a great jorge ribiero for 900k..
if u can sign a goalkeeper...

well in my 2nd season at hull i got bojan for free i finhsed 1st season in 12th in premiership, if you are relegated i guess he wont come

i know im writing this almost a year after this post, but i was reading thru and chyzhov for 190k??? no way, i signed him for £5.6m and he just mved to barca 4 £22.75m!
Contract of Chyzhov was coming to its end. So it was cheap but very efficient signing as a result
