If you are seeking for some Football Manager 2012 tips and hints then I advise you to read FM2012 hints and tips post.
Some of you asked me to tell about scouting system in Football Manager 2008. Well, ok, I will do it for you, dear readers.
The most vital and important attributes for scouts are Judging Player Ability and Judging Player Potential. Their names explain their meaning actually. Other attributes don't matter for scouts in my humble opinion. So when you seek for a new scout look only at these two.
Scouts have different levels of knowledge for distinct countries. At the bottom area of scout profile you can see them in a form of graphic rows sorted in descending order. Each knowledge is based on many factors: nationality, favourite team, nationality of a club, acquired knowledge and so on.
Quantity of players found by scout depends highly on knowledge of the country where he is assigned to.
Knowledge level of distinct country by scout can be increased in the following ways:
- Sending scout to this distinct country
- Sign other staff member with nationality of this distinct country.
- Get a feeder/parent club of this distinct country.
Scout reports about a player the following information:
Best Position - the best position of all on the 'Positions' screen.
Ability - here scout compares player with the club's best player or to some league standard (good/decent for any team of Premier League, for instance). Player can also be rated by scout as 2nd/3rd/4th best player on the current position in this club. There are two different types of rating stars: gold and silver. Silver ones are used for young players, gold - for senior ones.
Potential - here scout compares player with the club's best young player or to some league standard (good/decent for any team of Premier League, for instance).
Character - scout tells about character of a player defining how much it's determined, professional, ambitious.
Strengths - scout describes best abilities of the player: shown (speed, set pieces, etc.) and hidden (big matches attitude, versatility).
Weaknesses - scout describes the worst abilities of the player: shown (speed, set pieces, etc.) and hidden (injury proneness).
Transfer - scout gives information whether player wants to be signed by your club, his salary expectations, the current status of a player in his club.
Recommendation - total conclusion about reasonability of transferring this player.
Hope these tips and hints will help you in managing your football club in Football Manager 2008.
